Manchester Township is a township in York County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 19511 at the 2020 census. History Manchester Township, deriving its name from the English Duke of Manchester, was laid out in 1742 by Thomas Cookson, a representative of the Lancaster County Courts, because at that time York County was a part of Lancaster County. In the entire township there were 300 inhabitants. The first settlers were English Quakers, with German immigrants settling later and establishing it as an important agricultural community. The Emig Mansion, Sinking Springs Farms, and Willis House are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Willis House (York, Pennsylvania)
The Willis House is an historic, American home that is located in Manchester Township, York County, Pennsylvania. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. History and architectural features The builder of this historic residence, William Willis (1726–1801), was a Quaker who received 480 acres from Thomas Penn and Richard Penn Sr. in 1752. His grandfather, John Willis, was born in 1668 in Great Britain. In 1675, the family migrated to Westbury, Long Island, New York. His son, Samuel Willis (1778–1848), is frequently mentioned in local histories as "kindly Friend Willis," and was a major figure in the Underground Railroad. Built in 1762, this historic structure is a -story, banked brick dwelling with a partly exposed basement. It measures long by wide and has a steeply pitched gable roof. York Barbell
York Barbell is an American-based international manufacturer of fitness products. Bob Hoffman, named "Father of World Weightlifting" by the International Weightlifting Federation, bought the Milo Barbell Company and founded York Barbell in 1932. As a prolific writer of books and articles, Hoffman promoted the benefits of exercise and nutrition. Among the company's first employees were weightlifters Tony Terlazzo and John Terpak. Hoffman starting creating barbells in 1929, the same year he began to host meets in the oil burner factory.
