Manchester Blue Sox
The Manchester Blue Sox were a minor league baseball team based in Manchester, New Hampshire. From 1926 to 1930, the Blue Sox played as members of the Class B (baseball), Class B level New England League, winning the 1926 and 1929 league championships. The Manchester Blue Sox teams were preceded New England League play by several Manchester teams. The Manchester teams played under numerous nicknames in the seasons of play beginning in 1877 through the 1915 seasons, winning the 1902 league championship. The Manchester teams hosted home minor league games a ballpark site that had four different names in the era. Manchester played at the Beech Street Grounds (1877, 1887–1888, 1891–1893, 1899), Varich Park (1901–1906), Textile Field (1914–1915) and Athletic Park, all different names of the same parcel. Independent Baseball League
An independent baseball league is a professional baseball organization in the United States or Canada that is not overseen by Major League Baseball and is outside the Minor League Baseball clubs affiliated to it. The Northern League and Frontier League both started play in 1993, and the Northern League's success paved the way for other independent leagues like the Texas-Louisiana League and Northeast League. The Atlantic League has had more marquee players than any other independent league, including Jose Canseco, Mat Latos, Steve Lombardozzi Jr., Francisco Rodríguez, Chien-Ming Wang, Roger Clemens, Rich Hill, Scott Kazmir, Juan González, John Rocker, and Dontrelle Willis. Ted Scheffler
Theodore J. Scheffler (April 5, 1864 – February 24, 1949) was an American professional baseball player whose career spanned from 1885 to 1902. He played two seasons in Major League Baseball as an outfielder for the Detroit Wolverines in 1888 and the Rochester Broncos in 1890. Early years Scheffler was born in New York City in 1864. In 1887, he drew attention when he compiled a .429 batting average for the Manchester Farmers in the New England League. Major leagues On August 3, 1888, the Detroit Wolverines of the National League purchased Scheffler from the Manchester club. He appeared in only 27 games for Detroit and compiled a .202 batting average. The Detroit team disbanded after the 1888 season, and Scheffler spent the 1889 season with the Worcester Grays in the Atlantic Association. Phenomenal Smith
John Francis "Phenomenal" Smith (December 12, 1864 – April 3, 1952), born as John Francis Gammon, was an American professional baseball player and player-manager from 1884 to 1905. He played eight seasons in Major League Baseball, principally as a pitcher, for six different clubs. In his eight seasons in the major leagues, Smith appeared as a pitcher in 140 games and compiled a 54–74 (.422) win–loss record with a 3.89 earned run average (ERA) and 519 strikeouts. He saw his most extensive playing time with the Baltimore Orioles of the American Association, compiling a 41–50 win–loss record during the 1887 and 1888 seasons. Smith later served as a player-manager in the minor leagues from the early 1890s through 1905. He was credited with discovering Christy Mathewson in 1899 and developing him into an outstanding pitcher during the 1900 season. Thomas H. O'Brien (June 22, 1860 – April 21, 1921) was an infielder in Major League Baseball who played for five clubs in parts of six seasons between 1882 and 1890. O'Brien batted and threw right-handed. He was born in Salem, Massachusetts. A valuable utility, O'Brien played at least one game in each position except shortstop, although he played mostly at second base and first base. He reached the majors in 1882 with the Worcester Ruby Legs ( NL), spending one year with them before moving to the Baltimore Orioles ( AA), 1883), Boston Reds ( UA, 1884), again with Baltimore (1885), and the New York Metropolitans (AA, 1887) and Rochester Broncos (AA, 1890).
