Manasquan (, ) is a borough in Monmouth County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, on the Jersey Shore. As of the 2020 United States census, the borough's population was 5,938, an increase of 41 (+.7%) from the 2010 census count of 5,897, which in turn reflected a decline of 413 (−6.5%) from the 6,310 counted at the 2000 Census. The borough's name is of Lenape Native American origin, deriving from "Mënàskunk" meaning "Place to Gather Grass or Reeds". The Manasquan Reservoir is a source of water for municipalities and utilities, as well as a 1,204-acre (4.87 km2) park, located in Howell Township, in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. The reservoir doubles as a park that is part of the Monmouth County Park System. The park has trails, a visitor's center, a nature/environmental center, a boat launching area and several dikes for fishing, among its facilities. The reservoir itself, which is dammed from the Manasquan River, is operated by the New Jersey Water Supply Authority, which is a part of the much larger Raritan Basin Watershed. Manasquan (NJT Station)
Manasquan is a railway station in Manasquan, New Jersey, United States. It is served by trains on NJ Transit's North Jersey Coast Line. In May 2011, ticket machines were installed on both sides of the station depot at Manasquan. Commuter parking is free at the station, but it shares its lot with the customers of the pub adjacent to the station. History The station originally opened in 1876 by the Central Railroad of New Jersey. In 1896, the depot was replaced by the one at Spring Lake. The depot was built out of wood from Philadelphia's agricultural exhibition in the celebration of the United States Centennial in 1876. The depot lasted on the site until March 30, 1996, when a fire ravaged the 120-year-old building while serving as the home of the local historical society. The fire-ravaged depot came down in May. Manasquan Inlet
The Manasquan Inlet is an inlet that connects the Atlantic Ocean with the Manasquan River, dividing the counties of Ocean County and Monmouth County in the state of New Jersey. Passage to Bay Head Harbor and the Barnegat Bay is possible via the Point Pleasant Canal. The present Manasquan River Inlet was dug in the 1920s with the original inlet located at Stockton Lake. The present day inlet is the northern terminus of the Intracoastal Waterway. The inlet is home to the Squan US Coast Guard station.
