Manangle Parish, Cumberland (also spelled Menangle) is one of the 57 parishes of Cumberland County, New South Wales, a cadastral unit for use on land titles. Cumberland County, New South Wales
Cumberland County is a county in the State of New South Wales, Australia. Most of the Sydney metropolitan area is located within the County of Cumberland. The County of Cumberland stretches from Broken Bay to the north, the Hawkesbury River to the north-west, the Nepean River to the west, the Cataract River to the south-west and the northern suburbs of Wollongong to the south. It includes the area of the Cumberland Plain. History The name ''Cumberland'' was conferred by Governor Arthur Phillip in honour of Prince Henry Duke of Cumberland and Strathearn at a gathering to celebrate the birthday of his brother, King George III, on 4 June 1788. Rosemeadow, New South Wales
Rosemeadow is a suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Rosemeadow is located 56 kilometres south-west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the City of Campbelltown and is part of the Macarthur region. History Rosemeadow owes its name to early settler Thomas Rose, who in 1818 bought a farm called Mount Gilead which covered parts of modern-day Rosemeadow and neighbouring Gilead. Rose was a baker and publican as well as a farmer, building a mill on his property and a couple of large dams which helped him and his neighbours survive the drought of 1829. The area remained farmland until the mid-1970s when Sydney's urban sprawl reached it and the suburb was officially named in 1976. Gilead, New South Wales
Gilead () is a suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Gilead is located 58 kilometres south-west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the City of Campbelltown and is part of the Macarthur region. History Gilead was a land named in the Bible and famed for its fields of wheat. It obviously seemed like an ideal name for a wheat farm when Reuban Uther was granted in 1812 but Uther only persisted with his dream for six years before selling the estate. The purchaser was Thomas Rose who renamed it Mount Gilead. Rose lived and farmed the estate from 1818 until his death in 1837. The estate was inherited by his son Henry Rose, until the foreclosure by the mortgagees in 1862. In 1941, the land was bought by the Macarthur-Onslow family, owners of nearby Camden Park Estate, who still own it today. Nepean River (Darug: Yandhai), is a major perennial river, located in the south-west and west of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The Nepean River and its associated mouth, the Hawkesbury River, almost encircles the metropolitan region of Sydney. Camden County, New South Wales
Camden County was one of the original Nineteen Counties in New South Wales and is now one of the 141 Cadastral divisions of New South Wales. It included the coastal area near Wollongong south to the Shoalhaven River, and also inland encompassing Berrima and Picton. Its western boundary was the Wollondilly River. The first settlement in the area was Camden Park, established by John Macarthur in 1806, just across the Nepean River from Cumberland County. It was the first land across the Nepean to be settled.
