Manama Souq
Manama Souq () is the old bazaar ( souq) of Bahrain's capital, Manama. Location The Souq lies in the north of Manama, in-between the old parts of the city and the Central Business District, to the east of Noaim and west of Ras Rumman. The main entrance is the historic Bab Al Bahrain building. The country's only synagogue is located in the area. Redevelopments The Manama Souq has been redeveloped since its original construction. It is now divided into a new part and an old part. The new part is pedestrianized while the old area has roads for cars and walkways for pedestrians. At the heart of this redevelopment was his majesty, who designed various features such as the new wooden roof over the redeveloped part of the souq. Central Business District, Manama
The Central Business District (CBD) is located in central Manama, the capital of Bahrain. Many of the city's hotels, office buildings, shops and restaurants are located in the CBD. It lies along the northern coast of Manama. The CBD is considered one of the best shopping areas in the city; it has the Manama Souq (market, in Arabic), located near the Bab Al Bahrain (the Gateway of Bahrain). The old souq has a variety of goods, from spices, condiments, textiles, electronics to jewelry. Bahrain Synagogue is a disused synagogue located on Sasa'ah Avenue, in what is now a lower-class commercial district in Manama, the capital city of Bahrain. Overview The nondescript beige structure, which cannot be identified in any way as a Jewish house of worship, is no longer in use. The tiny Jewish community in Bahrain, numbering approximately 35 out of a total population of 700,000, can rarely muster a minyan required for prayer. Nevertheless, Bahrain is one of the only Arab countries in the Persian Gulf with any kind of Jewish community or synagogue. The community also maintains a small Jewish cemetery. Bab Al Bahrain
Bab Al Bahrain ( ar, باب البحرين, translitered ''Bāb al-Baḥrayn'' meaning ''Gateway of Bahrain'') is a historical building located in the Customs Square in the central business district of Manama. It marks the main entrance to the Manama Souq. Opened in 1949 and designed by the British adviser to the emir, Charles Belgrave, Bab Al Bahrain once stood on the Manama coastline. Due to extensive land reclamation in the later half of the 20th century, the structure is now several kilometres inland. The square is considered to be the region's first formal public space. Ras Rumman ( ar, رأس الرمان) is a neighborhood of Manama in Bahrain. Etymology The name Ras Rumman translates to "Head of Pomegrante" this was related to the large fields starting Ras Rumman and ending near Budaiya. History Historically it was a separate village of its own, however with the expansion of Manama, it became incorporated into the capital city as one of its neighbourhoods as the city began unprecedented urbanization in the 20th century. Noaim or Al-Noaim ( ar, النعيم; ''an-No'aim'') is a neighborhood of Bahrain's capital Manama. It is northwest of Manama city center. Due to Urban sprawl, urban expansion, increasing population, size, and historical conditions, it has become like a semi-district, separate from Manama with many neighborhoods. The population of Noaim is about 6,000 people, while more than ten thousand people live in different areas and villages of Bahrain. While some displaced families have been cut off from the area, the majority have remained in contact with their families, relatives, and friends who still live there.
