Man Running (film)
''Man Running'' is a Canadian drama film, directed by Gary Burns and released in 2018. The film stars Gord Rand as Jim, a medical doctor running a mountain marathon while wrestling with the ethical complications of assisted suicide after an ill teenage girl (Milli Wilkinson) asks for his help ending her life. Production on the film commenced in 2017, with the film being shot in Calgary, Canmore and Kananaskis, Alberta. The film premiered in September 2018 at the Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival, and had its second screening at the Calgary International Film Festival a week later. The film received several Rosie Award nominations from the Alberta Media Production Industries Association in 2019, including for Best Picture. Gary Burns (director)
Gary Burns (born 1960) is a Canadian film writer and director. Burns studied drama at the University of Calgary before attending Concordia University, where he graduated in 1992 from the Fine Arts film program. Born in Calgary, Alberta, many of Burns' films are shot in Calgary, and contain references to the particularities of living in the city. The Plus 15 system becomes the habitrail of urban semi-professionals in waydowntown and the public transportation system becomes a node where lives intersect in ''The Suburbanators''. Gord Rand is a Canadian actor and playwright. He is most noted for his recurring role as Det. Marty Duko in the television series ''Orphan Black'', for which he was a Canadian Screen Award nominee for Best Performance in a Guest Role in a Dramatic Series at the 5th Canadian Screen Awards in 2017.
