''Man and Boy'' is a 1999 novel by Tony Parsons. It was awarded the 2001 British Book of the Year award. Plot introduction Harry Silver is a successful television producer about to turn 30. He is happily married, has a four-year-old son and drives a convertible sports car. Then he spends the night with a colleague from work and his life falls apart; his wife leaves him and emigrates to Japan, he loses his job and he has to cope with being a single parent. He also has to deal with the trauma of his father dying from cancer. While coping with these stresses in his life, he meets another woman at a coffee shop, a woman whom he has already met with her child, then they part. Harry finds a new job and eventually moves on with his life. ''Man and Boy'' is a play by Terence Rattigan. It was first performed at The Queen's Theatre, London, and Brooks Atkinson Theatre, New York, in 1963, with Charles Boyer starring as Gregor Antonescu. It was poorly received, with a limited London run and only 54 performances on Broadway; but was revived by Maria Aitken in 2005 at the Duchess Theatre, London, with David Suchet as Gregor Antonescu, to great acclaim. ''Man and Boy'' is a statue situated at King's Quay on the harbour of Brixham, Devon, England. It is the result of a long fundraising effort; the residents of the town raised £76,000 for its construction. The monument was created in clay by the local sculptor Elisabeth Hadley and cast in bronze in Shropshire. Description The statue is a life-size sculpture of two fishermen, a man and a boy, behind a large ship's wheel.
