''Man, Pride and Vengeance'' ( it, L'uomo, l'orgoglio, la vendetta, german: Mit Django kam der Tod is a 1967 Spaghetti Western film written and directed by Luigi Bazzoni and starring Franco Nero, Tina Aumont, and Klaus Kinski. It is a Western film adaptation of the novella '' Carmen'' by Prosper Mérimée, and is one of the few Westerns not only filmed, but also set in Europe. Plot When stalwart Spanish soldier Don José meets the stunningly beautiful Carmen, he becomes instantly obsessed with the mysterious gypsy woman. After discovering she has cheated on him with his Lieutenant, Jose kills the officer during a brawl and flees the city. Forced to become a bandit, Jose partners with Carmen's villainous husband Garcia to rob a stagecoach and prove his love for the seductive femme fatale. Luigi Bazzoni
Luigi Bazzoni (25 June 1929 - 1 March 2012) was an Italian director and screenwriter. Born in Salsomaggiore Terme, Italy, Bazzoni was the elder brother of the film director and cinematographer Camillo Bazzoni and a cousin of the Academy Award winner Vittorio Storaro. He began his career as assistant director of Mauro Bolognini. Later he became director of films and short films, gaining critical attention for two Spaghetti Westerns, '' Man, Pride and Vengeance'' and ''Brothers Blue''. His short film ''Di Domenica'' achieved a Special Mention at the 1963 Cannes Film Festival. José Manuel Martín Pérez (born 24 May 1924) is a Spanish retired film and television actor, radio broadcaster, and screenwriter.
