Malta Amateur Athletic Association
The Malta Amateur Athletic Association is the governing body for the sport of athletics in Malta. Matthew Micallef St John Athletics Stadium in Marsa is the home of Maltese Athletics. The objectives for which the Association is established are to encourage, promote, develop and control athletics in Malta amongst all as a means of promoting physical health and well-being. Maltese representation in Athletics at Summer Olympics: Maltese Athletics were present for the first time on the international scene during the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936. Coming so close at the end of WWII with Malta still devastated from the German bombings, Maltese Athletics with Nestor Jacono was Malta's sole representative at the 1948 London Olympiad. Athletics is a group of sporting events that involves competitive running, jumping, throwing, and walking. The most common types of athletics competitions are track and field, road running, cross country running, and racewalking. The results of racing events are decided by finishing position (or time, where measured), while the jumps and throws are won by the athlete that achieves the highest or furthest measurement from a series of attempts. Athletic Association Of Small States Of Europe
The Athletic Association of Small States of Europe (AASSE) is a transnational organization representing the athletic interests of smaller European nations. It was created following a proposal by the Cyprus, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Luxembourg delegations at the Congress of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) in Barcelona in 1989. The official formation of AASSE took place during the 1994 European Athletic Association Congress in Venice in presence of the EAA president Carl-Olaf Homen. The Constitution Rules were signed by the representatives of Andorra, Cyprus, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta and San Marino. The association only accepts membership applications from European states with a population under one million.
