Maloelap Airport
Maloelap Airport is a public use airport located on Taroa Island in Maloelap Atoll, Marshall Islands. This airport is assigned the location identifier 3N1 by the FAA and MAV by the IATA. Facilities Maloelap Airport is at an elevation of 4 feet (1.2 m) above mean sea level. The runway is designated 04/22 with a turf surface measuring 3,500 by 150 feet (1,067 x 46 m). There are no aircraft based at Maloelap. History During World War II, Taroa Airfield was a major Japanese airbase approximately three miles long and one mile wide. The airfield was Japan's easternmost airbase of the War. Heavily bombed during the war, it was a favorite target for bombers from Makin Airfield, Tarawa and Abemama. Remnants of the airbase, defenses, and battles can still be found on the island; about 1,200 feet from the southwest end of the airport lies the wreck of the ''Toreshima Maru'', a Japanese supply ship sunk in December 1943. Taroa Airfield
Taroa Airfield was a major air base approximately three miles long and one mile wide on Taroa Island in the Maloelap Atoll in the Marshall Islands. The runway, which spanned the length of the island, is still in use today and known as Maloelap Airport (Airport Code: MAV). World War II During World War II, Taroa Airfield was the easternmost Japanese air base. It was a favorite target for Allied bombers from Makin Airfield, Tarawa, and Abemama and was heavily bombed in 1944. It became part of the vast Naval Base Marshall Islands in 1944. In an article about Charles Lindbergh's involvement in the Pacific Theater, G. D. Marshall Islands International Airport
Marshall Islands International Airport , also known as Amata Kabua International Airport, is located in the western part of Rairok on the south side of Majuro Atoll, the capital of the Republic of the Marshall Islands. The airport was built during World War II (1943) on Anenelibw and Lokojbar islets. It replaced Majuro Airfield, a coral-surfaced airstrip at Delap Island near the eastern end of Majuro Atoll that had been originally constructed by Japanese occupation forces in 1942. A series of single-floor structures (small hangars) make up the airport terminal. No physical structures existed at the airport prior to the 1970s. The current terminal structure and modern runway/apron were built in 1971. Passengers from flights arriving at the airport use stairs to exit aircraft and walk to the terminal. Butaritari Airport is an airport on Butaritari in the Pacific Ocean island nation of Kiribati. History Butaritari Atoll Airport was built in Kiribati during World War II by the United States after seizing the island from the Japanese.
