Albert Edward Mallalieu (13 January 1904 – March 1991) was an English cricketer. Mallalieu was a right-handed batsman. He was born in Delph, Saddleworth, Yorkshire. Malalieu his first-class debut for Wales against Scotland in 1924. He made five further first-class appearances for Wales, the last of which came against the Marylebone Cricket Club in 1930. In his six first-class appearances, he scored 137 runs at an average of 17.12, with a high score of 66. His score, his only first-class fifty, came against Ireland in 1925. He died in March 1991 in Huddersfield, Yorkshire. Ann Mallalieu, Baroness Mallalieu, (born 27 November 1945) is a British lawyer, Labour Party politician and president of the Countryside Alliance. Family and early life Lady Mallalieu comes from a distinguished political family. Her grandfather, Frederick Mallalieu, had been Liberal Member of Parliament for Colne Valley. He was succeeded in that seat by her uncle, Lance Mallalieu, later Labour MP for Brigg. Her father, Joseph Percival William Mallalieu (known as William), was Labour MP for Huddersfield East. She was educated at Newnham College, Cambridge, where she was the first female president of the Cambridge Union Society. Legal career Mallalieu was a barrister in the chambers 6 Kings Bench Walk. Aubrey Mallalieu
Aubrey Mallalieu (8 June 1873 – 28 May 1948) was an English actor with a prolific career in supporting roles in films in the 1930s and 1940s. Mallalieu began life as George William Mallalieu, the son of William Mallalieu (c. 1845–1927), a well-known stage comedian, and his wife Margaret Ellen Smith. He had a sister called Polly who corresponded with Lewis Carroll in the 1890s. He adopted the stage name of Aubrey early in his acting career. Information is scant on Mallalieu's pre-film career, but he is believed to have had a lengthy stage career before making the move into films. Archive sources available in New Zealand indicate that he spent a considerable number of years touring with stage companies in that country and Australia in the 1900s and 1910s. Frederick Mallalieu
Frederick William Mallalieu (1860 – 10 May 1932) was a Liberal Party politician in the United Kingdom. Son of woollen manufacturer and ironworks company chairman Henry Mallalieu (1831-1902), J.P., of Delph Lodge, Delph, Saddleworth, near Oldham, (now Greater Manchester, then in the West Riding of Yorkshire) Mallalieu was educated at Huddersfield College, Henry Mallalieu was of humble origins, one of nineteen children of weaver Joseph Mallalieu, and descended from Huguenots that settled at Saddleworth in the early 1600s; at the age of twelve Henry worked as a hand-loom weaver. Frederick's brother, Albert Henry Mallalieu, was head of that family of Tan-y-Marian, Llandudno. Mallalieu was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Colne Valley at a by-election in 1916. Sir Edward Lancelot Mallalieu (14 March 1905 – 11 November 1979), known as Lance Mallalieu, was a British politician. Of Huguenot origin, a son of Frederick Mallalieu, a Member of Parliament, Mallalieu's ancestors had settled at Saddleworth in the early 1600s, where they lived in humble circumstances working as weavers. Frederick Mallalieu's father, Henry (1831–1902), was a self-made businessman, at the age of twelve a hand-loom weaver, but becoming a woolen manufacturer, chairman of ironworks companies, and the magistrate. Lancelot Mallalieu was educated at the Dragon School, Oxford., Cheltenham College and Trinity College, Oxford.
