Mali Obomsawin
Mali Obomsawin is an Indigenous musician, scholar, and community organizer from Abenaki First Nation at Odanak. An award-winning bassist, vocalist, songwriter, and composer, Obomsawin is a cross-genre artist specializing in free-jazz, rock, and American roots music. Her debut solo album “''Sweet Tooth” (2022)'' has received international acclaim. She has toured nationally and internationally with the Mali Obomsawin Sextet, her band Lula Wiles, and as an accompanist. Obomsawin is also a founding member of the Wabanaki-led nonprofit Bomazeen Land Trust, where she currently serves as executive director. Early life Obomsawin was born in Stratford, New Hampshire. She is an enrolled member of Abenaki First Nation at Odanak in Quebec, and of Sephardic Jewish Descent on her mother's side. Stratford is a town located on the Connecticut River in Coös County, New Hampshire, United States. Pura Fé (born Pura Fé Antonia "Toni" Crescioni) Tuscarora/Taino, is an Indigenous singer-songwriter-musician, story teller, instructor, seamstress, artist and reviver of Canoe song/dance and woman's drum. Pura Fe is the founding member of the Native women's a cappella Trio Ulali. Personal life Pura Fé was born in New York City and brought up by her mother, grandparents and family of women singers. They count eight generations of singing sisters through their maternal bloodline as Indigenous Tuscarora Deer Clan of North Carolina, and have Black and Scot-Irish ancestry as well. William Shadrack Cole is an American jazz musician, ethnomusicologist, professor of music, professor of African-American studies, and author. As '' All About Jazz'' jazz journalist Dan McClenaghan put it, "Cole – a rare breed of jazz artist who has focused his efforts on uniting Eastern sounds with the American art form – is a musical seeker who has, over the better part of four decades ince 1974 mastered an array of non-traditional, non-Western indinstruments." Cole specializes in the Ghanaian ''atenteben'', the Chinese '' suona'', the Korean '' hojok'' and '' piri'', the South Indian ''nagaswaram'', the North Indian '' shehnai'', the Tibetan trumpet, and the Australian didjeridu.
