FIBA Africa Championship 1997
The FIBA Africa Championship 1997 was hosted by Senegal from July 25 to August 3, 1997. The games were played in Dakar. The top two countries in this FIBA Africa Championship earned the two berths allocated to Africa for the 1998 FIBA World Championship in Greece. Senegal won the tournament, the country's 5th African championship and first since 1980, by beating Nigeria 69-48 in the final. Both teams qualified for the 1998 FIBA World Championship. Association Sportive Police, commonly known as AS Police, is a basketball club based in Bamako, Mali. The team plays in the Ligue 1. The roster mainly consists of civilians from N'Tomikorobougou, a neighborhood in Bamako, and police officers. The team has known recent success, winning the national championship in 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021. The Police have also won five Malian Cups and were one of the twelve teams that played in the inaugural season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) in 2021. FIBA AfroBasket 2021 was the 30th edition of the FIBA AfroBasket, a men's basketball continental championship of Africa. The tournament was hosted by Rwanda for the first time. It was originally scheduled to take place between 17 and 29 August 2021, but it was moved back a week due to the COVID-19 pandemic, to 24 August to 5 September 2021. FIBA AfroBasket 2017 was the 29th edition of the AfroBasket, a men's basketball continental championship of Africa. The tournament was jointly hosted by Tunisia and Senegal. AfroBasket 2015 was the 28th edition of the AfroBasket, a men's basketball continental championship of Africa. It also served as the qualifying tournament for FIBA Africa at the 2016 Summer Olympics Basketball Tournament in Brazil. The tournament was held in Radès, Tunisia. AfroBasket 2013 was the 27th FIBA Africa Championship, played under the rules of FIBA, the world governing body for basketball, and the FIBA Africa thereof. The tournament was hosted by Ivory Coast from August 20 to 31, all games were played at the Palais des Sports de Treichville, Abidjan.
