Albert Malet (historian)
Albert Malet (3 May 1864, Clermont-Ferrand – 25 September 1915, Battle of Thélus, Pas de Calais) was a French historian and author of scholarly textbooks, killed during the First World War. Career Malet failed the entrance exam at Saint-Cyr, However, in 1889 he passed thAggregation of History and Geography Teacher Malet began teaching in Paris as "professeur agrégé d'histoire" (Associate Professor of History) at the lycée Voltaire in 1897. Malet was one of the founding members and served as Secretary and on the Board of the Société d’Histoire de la Révolution in 1904. In 1914, Malet became a teacher at the Lycée Louis-le-Grand. In French high schools "exceptional importance asgiven to the teaching of history" courses which were required. The courses were "taught by specialized teachers, who numbered 620 in 1914". Léo Malet
Léo Malet (7 March 1909 – 3 March 1996) was a French crime novelist and surrealist. Biography Leo Malet was born in Montpellier. He had little formal education and began work as a cabaret singer at "La Vache Enragee" in Montmartre, Paris in 1925. In the 1930s, he was closely aligned with the Surrealists, and was close friends with André Breton, René Magritte and Yves Tanguy, amongst others. During this time, he published several volumes of poetry. He died in Châtillon, a little town just south of Paris where he had lived for most of his life, four days before his 87th birthday. Works Though he dabbled in many genres, Malet is most famous for Nestor Burma, the anti-hero of ''Les Nouveaux Mystères de Paris''. William Malet (born before 1175–1215), feudal baron of Curry Mallet in Somerset, was one of the guarantors of ''Magna Carta''. William Malet (exile)
William Malet (died c. 1121) was the third of his family to hold the honour of Eye and the lordship of in Normandy. He was either the younger brother, son, or nephew of Robert Malet – in other words, either a son or grandson of the first William Malet. Before 1066, the older William Malet was the Lord of Graville, in Normandy and is known to have fought at the Battle of Hastings, helping to secure the crown of England for William, Duke of Normandy. The Malets were reputedly related by blood or marriage to both William the Conqueror and King Harold of England. William Malet the younger forfeited his English lands and was banished from England, some time between the older Malet's death, circa 1106, and 1113. William Malet (french: Guillaume Malet de Graville, died 1071) held senior positions within the Norman forces that occupied England from 1066. He was appointed the second High Sheriff of Yorkshire in 1068. Of the so-called companions of William of Normandy, Malet is one of about a dozen for whom there is evidence of their presence at the Battle of Hastings of 14 October 1066. For example, the contemporary chronicler William of Poitiers recorded that Malet was present at the battle. According to apocryphal accounts, Malet was related to both William of Normandy and King Harold of England. Rosa Maria Malet i Ybern (born 1948) is an art historian who directed the Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona from 1980 until she retired in 2017. Biography She was born in Badalona. In 1975 she graduated in Philosophy and Letters, specializing in Art History at the University of Barcelona. She discovered the work of Joan Miró in 1968, during the exhibition of his work that took place at the Hospital de la Santa Creu in Barcelona. She began working at the Fundació Joan Miró in the same year of its creation, in 1975, as a curator's assistant, and shortly afterwards as curator. She registered the works of the Foundation's funds. Robert Malet (c. 1050 – by 1130) was a Norman-English baron and a close advisor of Henry I. Early life Malet was the son of William Malet, and inherited his father's great honour of Eye in 1071. This made him one of the dozen or so greatest landholders in England.
