North Maleny is a rural locality in the Sunshine Coast Region, Queensland, Australia. In the North Maleny had a population of 621 people. Geography The Baroon Pocket Dam is in the north-east of the locality; it impounds Obi Obi Creek creating Lake Baroon. History The Maleny Provisional School opened on 22 July 1897, becoming Maleny State School on 1 January 1909. It was renamed Maleny North State School in 1913 (probably because of the opening on Maleny Township State School in nearby Maleny) but closed in 1914. Mary Cairncross Reserve
The Mary Cairncross Reserve is a conservation park located on the Blackall Range east of Maleny, in the Sunshine Coast Region, Queensland, Australia. Maleny is approximately north of Brisbane and west of Caloundra. The reserve is positioned in the mountain rainforests of the Maleny region overlooking the Glass House Mountains. Geology The Region holds many of the large predominate landforms in Queensland, the most recognisable is the Glass House Mountains. The Glass House Mountains were formed thousands of years ago when the outer layer of soil and rock eroded from the extinct volcanic summit. The dirt and soil located in the region is very rich and healthy, due to the high quantity of volcanic rock decomposed in the soil. Volcanic rock contains high amounts of nutrients. Witta is a rural town and locality in the Sunshine Coast Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Witta had a population of 1,201 people. History Witta was first settled around 1887 by German immigrant families. They called it ''Teutoberg'' (also spelled ''Teutoburg''), possibly referring to the Teutoburg Forest area in Germany. The town was renamed in 1916 during World War 1 due to anti-German sentiment. The name Witta is a corruption of the word ''wetya'' meaning ''dingo'' in the Kabi language. Blackall Range
The Blackall Range is a mountain range in South East Queensland, Australia. The first European explorer in the area was Ludwig Leichhardt. It was named after Samuel Blackall, the second Governor of Queensland. The Blackall Range dominates the hinterland area of the Sunshine Coast, west of Nambour. Maleny, Mapleton, Montville and Flaxton are the main settlements located on the range. The Stanley River rises from the southern slopes. Baroon Pocket Dam is a reservoir on Obi Obi Creek which drains the north west slopes of the range. Mary Cairncross Reserve marks the site of the first settler's house on the Blackall Range. Curramore Sanctuary, Mapleton Falls National Park and Kondalilla National Park are also located on the range. A number of lookouts on the range provide views towards the coast.
