Malcolm Lindsay
Malcolm Francis Aylesworth Lindsay (February 4, 1909 – May 3, 1983) was the 14th commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, serving from August 15, 1967 to September 30, 1969. He served as Mountie from 1934 to 1969. The commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police () is the professional head of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). The commissioner exercises control and management of the RCMP under the direction of the minister of public safety. The position is a Governor in Council appointment made on the advice of the prime minister of Canada. In addition to his or her role in the management of the RCMP, the commissioner serves as Principal Commander of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces. Under the ''Firearms Act'', the RCMP commissioner also serves as the commissioner of firearms, the chief executive of the Canadian Firearms Program. Royal Canadian Mounted Police Long Service Medal
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police Long Service Medal was established by royal warrant on 6 March 1934 by King George V. It is the oldest continually awarded honour within the Canadian honours system, and the first created specifically for Canadian service within Canada. Initially proposed by the Royal North-West Mounted Police Veterans’ Association, it took more than ten years for the proposal to be realized. The determination of the veterans was aided by the interest of Commissioner Cortlandt Starnes and Prime Minister R.B. Bennett. The Canadian Centennial Medal (french: Médaille du centenaire du Canada) is a commemorative medal struck by the Royal Canadian Mint in 1967 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Canadian Confederation and was awarded to Canadians who were recommended by government, professional, educational and cultural associations, as well as military and protective services, veterans' groups, sports associations, and philanthropic and charitable bodies, for having provided valuable service to Canada. Some 29,500 medals were issued after its inauguration on 1 July 1967, of which 8,500 went to personnel in the Canadian Forces. The Canadian Centennial Medal was designed by Bruce W. George McClellan (police Commissioner)
George Brinton McClellan Jr. (August 13, 1908 – July 19, 1982) served as the 13th Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, from November 1, 1963, to August 14, 1967. Education In 1929, he graduated from the Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston, Ontario, with a Certificate of Military Qualifications in Cavalry and Infantry. Career He joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police on August 15, 1932. He served across Canada in national security and criminal investigation. He was appointed Commissioner of the RCMP on November 1, 1963. He chaired two federal-provincial conferences resulting in the expansion of National Police Services, and the Canadian Police College. He terminated equitation training for all recruits but maintained it for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Musical Ride. William Higgitt
William Leonard Higgitt (10 November 1917 – 2 April 1989) was the 14th Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), holding office from 1969 to 1973, and President of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) from 1972 to 1976. Leonard Higgitt's background in intelligence and counterintelligence with the RCMP during and after World War II made him the preferred choice as RCMP Commissioner at what was the height of the Cold War. Higgitt also directed national security operations during the October Crisis of 1970, when members of the Front de libération du Québec ( FLQ) kidnapped the provincial Labour Minister Pierre Laporte and British diplomat James Cross, events which saw then Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau invoke the War Measures Act, the first time in Canadian history that the Act was invoked during peacetime.
