Nantwich
Nantwich ( ) is a market town and civil parish in the unitary authority of Cheshire East in Cheshire, England. It has among the highest concentrations of listed buildings in England, with notably good examples of Tudor and Georgian architecture. It had a population of 14,045 in 2021. History The origins of the settlement date to Roman times, when salt from Nantwich was used by the Roman garrisons at Chester (Deva Victrix) and Stoke-on-Trent as a preservative and a condiment. Salt has been used in the production of Cheshire cheese and in the tanning industry, both products of the dairy industry based in the Cheshire Plain around the town. ''Nant'' comes from the Welsh for brook or stream. ''Wich'' and ''wych'' are names used to denote brine springs or wells. In 1194 there is a reference to the town as being called ''Nametwihc'', which would indicate it was once the site of a pre-Roman Celtic nemeton or sacred grove. Anthony Malbon
Anthony Jordan Malbon (born 14 October 1991) is an English footballer who plays as a forward for club Eccleshall. He played for Port Vale between 2009 and 2010, before he signed with Leek Town in summer 2010. He moved on to Newcastle the following year. He also played on loan for both Leek and Newcastle during his time at Vale. In January 2012, he moved up three divisions to play for Conference side Kidderminster Harriers. He was called up to the England C squad in May 2012, but did not win a cap. He was named on the Conference Team of the Year for the 2012–13 season. He switched to Stalybridge Celtic in June 2014, and the joined Kidsgrove Athletic in December 2014. He went on to become the highest goalscorer in the club's history with 159 goals in eight years. He joined Hanley Town in March 2022 and helped the club to win the Midland League Premier Division title at the end of the 2021–22 season, before moving on to Eccleshall in July 2022. John Malbon Thompson
John Malbon Thompson (24 December 1830 – 30 May 1908) was an Australian lawyer and politician, member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Early life Thompson was the son of John Thompson, sometime Deputy Surveyor-General for New South Wales, by his marriage with the daughter of Charles Windeyer. He was born in Sydney and educated at William Timothy Cape's Grammar School. Career Thompson was admitted an attorney and solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 1855, and removing to Queensland, where he was admitted to the bar in June 1880, practised at Ipswich, Queensland, for which town he was returned to the Assembly in 1868. Whilst representing this constituency he was Chairman of Committees for two years, Secretary for Lands in the Arthur Palmer Ministry from May 1870 to July 1873, and Secretary for Public Works from the latter date till January 1874, when the Government retired. William Malbank, 3rd Baron Of Wich Malbank
William Malbank (also William de Malbanc and William II de Malbank) ( 1125 – 1176was a Norman landowner who was the third Baron of Wich Malbank, now known as Nantwich, in Cheshire. His grandfather of the same name was the first Baron.Hall, pp. 17–24 Biography The son of Hugh Malbank, 2nd Baron, and his wife, Petronilla, he held substantial lands in and around the salt town of Nantwich, amounting to much of the Nantwich hundred. His father founded Combermere Abbey in Cheshire in around 1133, and William Malbank is known to have confirmed the foundation and added further gifts. Little else is recorded of his life. His wife Andilicia probably died early in the reign of Henry II. They had no male heirs and, on his death, his lands and the privileges of the Nantwich barony were divided between his three daughters.
