Malayalam cinema is an Indian cinema, Indian film industry of Malayalam-language motion pictures. It is based in Kochi, Kerala, India. The films produced in Malayalam cinema are known for their cinematography and story-driven plots. In 1982, ''Elippathayam'' won the Sutherland Trophy at the London Film Festival, and Most Original Imaginative Film of 1982 by the British Film Institute. ''Lal Americayil'' () is a 1989 Indian Malayalam-language comedy film directed by Sathyan Anthikkad and written by Cochin Haneefa. The film stars Mohanlal, Prem Nazir, Jagathy Sreekumar, Disco Santhi, and Haneefa. The soundtrack and musical score was composed by Johnson. Plot Ravi Varma (Prem Nazir), a rich businessman settled in America, pines for his son Babu, lost at the age of 5. His blind wife had also died the day he lost Babu. With the help of his friend Unnithan (Oduvil) & attorney Ravindran (Sathar), he fakes his death & publishes an ad looking for his son. 3 people show up (Cochin Hanifa, Mohanlal & Jagathi) claiming to be Babu. Nedumudi Venu
Kesavan Venugopal (22 May 1948 – 11 October 2021), better known by his stage name Nedumudi Venu, was an Indian actor and screenwriter from Kerala, who predominantly worked in Malayalam cinema. He acted in more than 500 films, primarily in Malayalam cinema, Malayalam and also in Tamil cinema, Tamil in a career spanning nearly five decades. He wrote screenplays and directed one film. Nedumudi Venu won three National Film Awards and six Kerala State Film Awards for his various performances. Early life Venu was born as Venugopal to P. K. Kesava Pillai, a school master and P. Kunjikkuttiyamma in Nedumudi as the youngest of their five children. He had four elder brothers. Shobana
Shobana Chandrakumar Pillai (born 21 March 1970) is an Indian actress and Bharatanatyam dancer. She acts predominantly in Malayalam films along with Telugu and Tamil films with few Hindi, Kannada and English films. She has won two National Film Awards, one Kerala State Film Awards, two Filmfare Awards South, with 14 Nominations for Best Actress Category in three different south Indian languages, Tamil Nadu State's Kalaimamani Award in 2011 and numerous other awards. She won the National Film Award for Best Actress twice, for her performances in the Malayalam film ''Manichitrathazhu'' (1993) and the English film ''Mitr, My Friend'' (2001). Rahman (actor)
Rashin Rahman (born 23 May 1967) is an Indian actor. He has worked in around 200 films, primarily in Malayalam cinema, in addition to Tamil, Hindi and Telugu cinema, and has won several awards. In Tamil and Telugu cinema, he is also known by the screen names Raghuman and Raghu. He made his acting debut in ''Koodevide'' (1983), for which he won his first Kerala State Film Award for Second Best Actor, becoming the youngest recipient of the award at the age of 16. He was a popular teen idol in Malayalam cinema during the 1980s, which heightened his stardom in Malayalam film industry. ''Charithram'' () is a 1989 Indian Malayalam-language thriller film starring Mammootty and Rahman, along with Shobana, Lizy, Jagathy Sreekumar, Janardhanan, Murali and Pappu in other pivotal roles. It was written by S. N. Swamy and directed by G. S. Vijayan in his directorial debut. The story is loosely based on the 1958 film ''Chase a Crooked Shadow'', the title of which is openly mentioned in one of the dialogues in the movie. Sreekumar P. K. (born 5 January 1951), better known by his stage name Jagathy Sreekumar or simply Jagathy, is an Indian actor, director and playback singer, who has appeared in over 1500 Malayalam films in a career spanning almost four decades.
