Mal Seddon
Malcolm 'Doc' Seddon (31 May 1888 – 30 August 1955) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Collingwood in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Seddon was also a veteran of World War I, where he fought in Europe and spent time in the Middle East from 1915 to 1919. Seddon survived the war and returned to play for Collingwood in 1919. Controversially, Seddons drill sergeant, a Carlton supporter, put Seddon and Collingwood teammate, Paddy Rowan, through a 10-mile route march on the morning of the 1915 Grand Final. Whilst overseas, Seddon sent back a horseshoe made from a German bomb along with the remnants of a German aircraft shot down by Australian soldiers at the Battle of the Somme. Seddon sent them to the club as a gesture of good luck to the Magpies. In Seddons absence, Collingwood won the 1917 Premiership. Collingwood, Victoria
Collingwood is an inner-city suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 3km north-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Yarra local government area. Collingwood recorded a population of 9,179 at the 2021 census. The area now known as Collingwood is thought to have been named Yálla-birr-ang by the Wurundjeri people, the original Indigenous inhabitants of the area. Following colonisation, the suburb was named in 1842 after Baron Collingwood or an early hotel which bore his name. Collingwood is one of the oldest suburbs in Melbourne and is bordered by Smith Street, Alexandra Parade, Hoddle Street and Victoria Parade. Collingwood is notable for its historical buildings, with many nineteenth century dwellings, shops and factories still in use. 1919 VFL Grand Final
The 1919 VFL Grand Final was an Australian rules football game contested between the Collingwood Football Club and Richmond Football Club, held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne on 11 October 1919. It was the 22nd annual Grand Final of the Victorian Football League, staged to determine the premiers for the 1919 VFL season. The match, attended by 45,413 spectators, was won by Collingwood by a margin of 25 points, marking that club's fifth premiership victory. Richmond Football Club
The Richmond Football Club, nicknamed the Tigers, is an Australian rules football team playing in the Australian Football League (AFL). Between its inception in the Melbourne suburb of Richmond in 1885 and 1907, the club competed in the Victorian Football Association (VFA), winning two premierships. Richmond joined the Victorian Football League (now known as the AFL) in 1908 and has since won 13 premierships, most recently in 2020. Richmond's headquarters and training facilities are located at its original home ground, the Punt Road Oval, which sits adjacent to the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), the club's playing home since 1965. Richmond traditionally wears a black guernsey with a yellow sash. The club song, " We're From Tigerland", is well known for its "yellow and black" refrain. The Melbourne Sports and Entertainment Centre (originally known as the Swimming and Diving Stadium and now known commercially as the AIA Vitality Centre) is a sports administration and training facility located in the Melbourne Sports and Entertainment Precinct in Melbourne, Australia. The facility opened in 1956 as an aquatic centre for the 1956 Olympic Games. In 1983, the Olympic-sized pool was replaced with a parquetry floor and the facility became Melbourne's home of numerous basketball events until 1998, most notably as the home venue for several National Basketball League teams including the North Melbourne Giants and Melbourne Tigers.
