Makri (Nissos Makri) ( el, Μάκρη) is a Greek island, one of the Echinades, in the Ionian Islands group. It is located on the far southeast side of the Gulf of Makri close to the mouth of the Acheloos river. It is administered by the municipality of Ithaca and is east of the island. , it had no resident population. Makri (Greek: Μάκρη) is a village and a municipal district of the city of Alexandroupoli, Evros regional unit, Greece. In 2011 its population was 924 for the village, and 1,919 for the municipal district. It is situated on the Aegean Sea coast, 12 km west of downtown Alexandroupoli. Fethiye () is a city and district of Muğla Province in the Aegean Region of Turkey. It is one of the prominent tourist destinations in the Turkish Riviera. In 2019 its population was 162,686. History Fethiye was formerly known as Makri (). Modern Fethiye is located on the site of the ancient city of Telmessos, the ruins of which can be seen in the city, e.g. the Hellenistic theatre by the main quay. A Lycian legend explains the source of the name Telmessos as follows: The god Apollo falls in love with the youngest daughter of the King of Phoenicia, Agenor. Nancy Makri (born September 5, 1962) is the Edward William and Jane Marr Gutgsell Endowed Professor of Chemistry and Physics at the University of Illinois Urbana–Champaign, where she is the principal investigator of the Makri Research Group for the theoretical understanding of condensed phase quantum dynamics. She studies theoretical quantum dynamics of polyatomic systems, and has developed methods for long-time numerical path integral simulations of quantum dissipative systems. Early life and education Nancy Makri was born in Athens, Greece on September 5, 1962. She graduated from the University of Athens in 1985 with a B.S. in Chemistry, after working with Professor Cleanthes A. Nicolaides. She then attended the University of California at Berkeley and received her Ph.D. in 1989 under the direction of William H. Miller. Kyveli Makri (Greek : Κυβέλη Μακρή) born in Athens, Greece is a ceramic artist. She creates contemporary hand-built ceramics using clay, wood, plexiglass and recycled metals reflecting her attention to form, concept and contemporary hybridity. Her minimalistic use of design and mixed media techniques break the barriers of the present time and filter her creations with a touch of nostalgia, playfulness and artistic dialogues.
