Making History (game)
''Making History: The Calm & The Storm'' is a World War II grand strategy video game released in March 2007 by developer Muzzy Lane. Similar in ways to the popular board games '' Axis & Allies'' and ''Risk'', ''Making History'' is turn-based with basic industrial, economic, resource, research and diplomatic management included. The game was released as ''Strategic War Command'' in Germany. As of patch 2.03 players are able to play as any nation that had international recognition from 1936 to 1945, although players are encouraged to select from one of the more powerful entities of the era, namely Nationalist China, France, National Socialist Germany, Fascist Italy, Imperial Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States or the Soviet Union. Muzzy Lane Software is a technology company developing game-based learning software tools in the Education Technology space. In 2015 they released Muzzy Lane Author, a suite of tools that allow educators to create their own game-based learning assessments. The company began by creating detailed strategy games with the goal of learning and teaching history. Their '' Making History'' series has been used in hundreds of classrooms; which led the company to create several commercial releases in the World War II and World War I eras. They have worked with partners including McGraw-Hill Education, Pearson Education, Cengage Learning, the National Geographic Society, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and directly with universities. ''Risk'' is a strategy board game of diplomacy, conflict and conquest for two to six players. The standard version is played on a board depicting a political map of the world, divided into forty-two territories, which are grouped into six continents. Turns rotate among players who control armies of playing pieces with which they attempt to capture territories from other players, with results determined by dice rolls. Players may form and dissolve alliances during the course of the game. The goal of the game is to occupy every territory on the board and, in doing so, eliminate the other players.
