"Make It with You" is a song written by David Gates and originally recorded by American pop-rock group Bread, of which Gates was a member. Gates and drummer Mike Botts are the only members of the group to appear on the recording which was a No.1 hit. Release The song first appeared on Bread's 1970 album, ''On the Waters''. Released as a single that June, it was the group's first top-ten hit on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 singles chart and spent the week of August 22, 1970, at No.1, their only single to do so; it also reached No.5 on the UK Singles Chart. ''Billboard'' ranked "Make It with You" as the No. 13 song of 1970, and it was certified gold by the RIAA for sales of over one million copies. Bread (band)
Bread was an American soft rock band from Los Angeles, California. They had 13 songs chart on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 between 1970 and 1977. The band was fronted by David Gates (vocals, bass guitar, guitar, keyboards, violin, viola, percussion), with Jimmy Griffin (vocals, guitar, keyboards, percussion) and Robb Royer (bass guitar, guitar, flute, keyboards, percussion, recorder, backing vocals). On their first album session musicians Ron Edgar played drums and Jim Gordon played drums, percussion, and piano. Mike Botts became their permanent drummer when he joined in the summer of 1969, and Larry Knechtel replaced Royer in 1971, playing keyboards, bass guitar, guitar, and harmonica. Beginnings and fame David Gates was from Tulsa, Oklahoma. He released a song in the late 1950s entitled "Jo-Baby"/"Lovin' at Night". It contains re-recordings of songs by other artists that the band were fans of and had provided inspiration for them, including a cover of New York City's 1973 hit single, " I'm Doing Fine Now", which reached number four in the UK Singles Chart, becoming The Pasadenas' highest-placing single on that chart. The Pasadenas were an English R&B/pop group. They had two UK top 10 albums and eight UK top 40 hit singles, including " Tribute (Right On)" (1988), "Riding on a Train" (1988) and " I'm Doing Fine Now" (1992). Career The group scored a UK number five hit, and topped the charts in the Netherlands in 1988 with their initial release, " Tribute (Right On)", which paid homage to soul musicians Diana Ross & the Supremes and Aretha Franklin. Priscilla Maria Veronica White (27 May 1943 – 1 August 2015), better known as Cilla Black, was an English singer, actress and television presenter. Championed by her friends the Beatles, Black began her career as a singer in 1963. Her singles " Anyone Who Had a Heart" and "You're My World" both reached number one in the UK in 1964. Ralfi Pagán (born Rafael Pagán; 1946–1978) was a Bronx, New York-based Latin soul and salsa singer of Puerto Rican and Cuban parentage who was active from the mid-1960s until his death in 1978. He specialized in soul ballads sung both in Spanish and English and released five albums during the 1970s. He is well known for the duet with Sylvia Robinson entitled ''Soul Je T'aime'' and for his solo reworking of ''Make It With You'' previously recorded by David Gates and Bread. Ralfi toured with legendary music producer and promoter Eddie Torres for several years throughout the Southwest United States.
