Majidae
Majidae is a family of crabs, comprising around 200 marine species inside 52 genera, with a carapace that is longer than it is broad, and which forms a point at the front. The legs can be very long in some species, leading to the name "spider crab". The exoskeleton is covered with bristles to which the crab attaches algae and other items to act as camouflage. Genera The roughly 200 extant and over 50 extinct species are divided among 52 genera in 5 subfamilies: '' Eurynolambrinae'' Števčić, 1994 *'' Eurynolambrus'' H. Milne-Edwards & Lucas, 1841 '' Majinae'' Samouelle, 1819 *'' Ageitomaia'' Griffin & Tranter, 1986 *'' Anacinetops'' Miers, 1879 *''Choniognathus'' Rathbun, 1932 *'' Cyclax'' Dana, 1851 *'' Entomonyx'' Miers, 1884 *''Eurynome'' Leach, 1814 *'' Jacquinotia'' Rathbun, 1915 *'' Kasagia'' Richer de Forges & Ng, 2007 *'' Kimbla'' Griffin & Tranter, 1986 *''Leptomithrax'' Miers, 1876 *'' Maiopsis'' Faxon, 1893 *'' Maja'' Lamarck, 1801 *'' Majella'' Ortmann, 1893 *'' M ... Crab
Crabs are decapod crustaceans of the infraorder Brachyura, which typically have a very short projecting "tail" (abdomen) ( el, βραχύς , translit=brachys = short, / = tail), usually hidden entirely under the thorax. They live in all the world's oceans, in freshwater, and on land, are generally covered with a thick exoskeleton, and have a single pair of pincers. They first appeared during the Jurassic Period. Description Crabs are generally covered with a thick exoskeleton, composed primarily of highly mineralized chitin, and armed with a pair of chelae (claws). Crabs vary in size from the pea crab, a few millimeters wide, to the Japanese spider crab, with a leg span up to . Several other groups of crustaceans with similar appearances – such as king crabs and porcelain crabs – are not true crabs, but have evolved features similar to true crabs through a process known as carcinisation. Environment Crabs are found in all of the world's oceans, as well as in fresh w ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Spider Crab
The Majoidea are a superfamily of crabs which includes the various spider crabs. Taxonomy In "''A classification of living and fossil genera of decapod crustaceans''" De Grave and colleagues divided Majoidea into six families: * Family Epialtidae ** Subfamily Epialtinae ** Subfamily Pisinae ** Subfamily Pliosomatinae ** Subfamily Tychiinae * Family Hymenosomatidae * Family Inachidae * Family Inachoididae * Family Majidae ** Subfamily Eurynolambrinae ** Subfamily Majinae ** Subfamily Micromaiinae ** Subfamily Mithracinae ** Subfamily Planoterginae * Family Oregoniidae The classification has since been revised, with subfamilies Epialtinae and Mithracinae being elevated to families and Hymenosomatidae being moved to its own superfamily. The family composition according to the World Register of Marine Species is as follows: * family Epialtidae MacLeay, 1838 * family Inachidae MacLeay, 1838 * family Inachoididae Dana, 1851 * family Macrocheiridae Dana, 1851 * family Majida ... Majella (crab)
The Maiella (or Majella) is a massif in the Central Apennines, in Abruzzo, central Italy. Geography The mountain is located at the boundary between the provinces of Chieti, Pescara and L'Aquila. The highest peak is Monte Amaro at 2,793 m, the second-highest of the entire Apennine range. The massif is at the centre of the Maiella National Park. The Maiella is formed by a compact limestone massif, on which summit are the highest peaks in the group: Monte Amaro 2,793 m, Monte Acquaviva 2,737 m, Monte Focalone 2,676 m, Monte Rotondo 2,656 m, Monte Macellaro 2,646 m, Pesco Falcone 2,546 m, Cima delle Murelle 2,598 m. A further peak is the Blockhaus (2,145m), which is sometimes used as the finish of a stage of the Giro d'Italia cycling race. Vast plateaus are present up to 2,500 m. The slopes are characterized by steep valleys and gorges, carved out by rivers such as the Orfento, the Foro and others. Nearby are the Monte Morrone, Monte Porrara and Monti Pizzi grou ...
