Mairead Farrell (radio Presenter)
Mairead Ronan (; born 3 April 1980) is an Irish television and radio presenter. Early life Ronan was born in Finglas on the Northside of Dublin. She attended a HR Management course after leaving school, but switched to a media course at Ballyfermot College of Further Education. Radio career Ronan was featured on ''The Ray D'Arcy Show'' that originally aired every weekday morning on Today FM. She initially interned on the show before being promoted to broadcasting assistant, and then became co-producer, also featuring as an on-air contributor. When Ray D'Arcy left Today FM, Ronan became the producer of The Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show. In 2017, after fifteen years with the radio station Ronan left the radio station to focus on other projects. In 2019, Ronan rejoined the station fronting her own daily music and entertainment show, ''The Mairead Ronan Show'' between 12pm-2pm. ''Republic of Telly'' is a TV review and magazine programme on Irish public broadcaster, RTÉ Two. Presented by comedian Kevin McGahern, the programme is intended as a satirical examination of television, mocking various Irish and British TV channels, including sketches and special guests making an appearance from the shows. An added feature of the show is its correspondents Jennifer Maguire and Bernard O'Shea. Maguire conducts vox pops and celebrity interviews, whereas O'Shea conducts live 'on the spot' reports (filmed in front of a greenscreen). Thomas John Bowe (born 22 February 1984) is an Irish former rugby union player from County Monaghan, Ireland. He played on the wing for Ulster, Ireland and the British & Irish Lions. In March 2012, after four years with Ospreys in Swansea, Wales, he returned to Ulster for the 2012/13 season. After his playing career, Bowe has taken up television presenting, and is a host of morning television show ''Ireland AM''. RTÉ2 is an Irish free-to-air television channel operated by public service broadcaster RTÉ. It was launched in 1978 as the Republic of Ireland's second television channel. History In the 1970s, the Irish government considered three options for the introduction of a second television service: the re-transmission of BBC1 Northern Ireland; authorization of an independent commercial service; or charging RTÉ with the establishment of a second national channel. It was the last of these that was finally chosen. The channel—only the second in the Republic—began transmissions at 20:00 on 2 November 1978, opening with a broadcast of a gala ceremony from Cork Opera House. Owing to a technical error, audio from BBC2 was played during the countdown instead of the proper soundtrack. ''The Movie Show'' was a half-hour weekly Irish television series which served as RTÉ's flagship movie review show. First broadcast in 1993 until September 2001, it was presented by Dave Fanning, who was amongst the many people outraged when the show was axed. Movie companies were also said to be distressed at its axing. Fanning criticised RTÉ's management, who never once consulted with him before making their decision, and said the axing of the show was "ludicrous" and "outrageous". He implied that RTÉ ought to produce a programme that reviews movies as it is seen as cheap and the interviews are paid for by the movie companies themselves.
