Maine State Route 116
State Route 116 (SR 116) is part of Maine's system of numbered state highways, located in Penobscot County. It runs for from Old Town to Medway. Route description SR 116 begins at SR 16 at Old Town. It heads east towards the Penobscot River, running parallel with it to the junction with State Routes 6 and 155 in Howland. SR 116 then meets U.S. Route 2 in Enfield. SR 116 and SR 6 follows U.S. Route 2 to Lincoln, Maine while SR 155 continues east from Enfield. SR 116 splits off U.S. Route 2 and SR 6 just south of Lincoln. The route heads northwest, crossing the Penobscot River again. The route then turns right from the Mattamiscontis Road intersection to the town of Chester. After passing Chester, the route keeps heading north towards Interstate 95 without an interchange and goes to the town of Medway, where the route ends at State Routes 11 and 157. Old Town, Maine
Old Town is a city in Penobscot County, Maine, United States. The population was 7,431 at the 2020 census. The city's developed area is chiefly located on the relatively large Marsh Island, though its boundaries extend beyond that. The island is surrounded and defined by the Penobscot River to the east and the Stillwater River to the west. History Abenaki Indians called it ''Pannawambskek,'' meaning "where the ledges spread out," referring to rapids and drops in the river bed. The French established a Jesuit Catholic mission here in the 1680s. State Route 6 (SR 6) is part of Maine's system of numbered state highways, running from west to east across the state. Its western terminus is at the Canada–United States border near Sandy Bay (a terminus it shares with U.S. Route 201), where it connects to Quebec Route 173. Its eastern terminus is at the Canada-US border in Vanceboro, where it connects to New Brunswick Route 4. SR 6 is the only highway in Maine to terminate at the Canadian border at both ends. State Route 157 (SR 157) is a state highway in the northern part of the U.S. state of Maine. It travels between the towns of Millinocket and Mattawamkeag generally following the northern banks of the West Branch Penobscot River and the Penobscot River. For just under a half of its length, it is concurrent with SR 11 from Millinocket to Medway. This portion is also concurrent with the Katahdin Woods & Waters Maine Scenic Byway. Route description SR 157 begins at the intersection of Katahdin Avenue, School Street, and Central Street. Maine State Route 11
State Route 11 (SR 11) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Maine. It is a major interregional route which runs nearly the entire length of the state from south to north. The southern terminus of SR 11 is at the New Hampshire state line in Lebanon, where it connects to New Hampshire Route 11. The northern terminus is at U.S. Route 1 (US 1) and SR 161 in Fort Kent, near the Canada–US border. Interstate 95 In Maine
Interstate 95 (I-95) in the US state of Maine is a highway running from the New Hampshire state line in Kittery, to the Canadian border in Houlton. It is the only two-digit Interstate Highway in Maine. In 2004, the highway's route between Portland and Gardiner was changed so that it encompasses the entire Maine Turnpike (including the former I-495 between Falmouth and Gardiner), a toll road running from Kittery to Augusta. State Route 155 (SR 155) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Maine. It runs in a southwesterly-northeasterly direction (but is signed as south–north) mostly in Penobscot County. It connects the town of Bradford at SR 11 and SR 221 with Lincoln at U.S. Route 2 (US 2) and SR 6.
