State Route 108 (SR 108) is part of Maine's system of numbered state highways, located in Oxford and Androscoggin counties. Its western terminus is in Rumford, at the intersection with U.S. Route 2 (US 2). Its eastern terminus is at Turner, at the intersection with SR 219. Route description SR 108 begins at US 2 at Rumford. The route travels east along Bridge Street, first immediately crossing the Androscoggin River on Morse Bridge, a steel through arch bridge constructed in 1935. After passing a few offices, the road crosses a branch of the Androscoggin River on Upper Canal Bridge, a simple steel girder bridge. The road heads northeast passing to the south of Rumford Mill before making a curve to the southeast closely following the southern banks of the Androscoggin River. Concurrency (road)
A concurrency in a road network is an instance of one physical roadway bearing two or more different route numbers. When two roadways share the same right-of-way, it is sometimes called a common section or commons. Other terminology for a concurrency includes overlap, coincidence, duplex (two concurrent routes), triplex (three concurrent routes), multiplex (any number of concurrent routes), dual routing or triple routing. Concurrent numbering can become very common in jurisdictions that allow it. Where multiple routes must pass between a single mountain crossing or over a bridge, or through a major city, it is often economically and practically advantageous for them all to be accommodated on a single physical roadway. Peru is a town in Oxford County, Maine, United States. The population was 1,488 at the 2020 census. History It was granted by the Massachusetts General Court to several residents from Falmouth, Maine. The first grantee to settle would be Merrill Knight in 1793. Organized in 1812 as Plantation Number 1 (also Thompsontown), it was incorporated on February 5, 1821 as the 240th town in Maine. Peru was named in the spirit of liberty and solidarity for Peru, the South American country which declared independence from Spain on July 28, 1821. Rumford Mill
Rumford Mill is a pulp mill and paper mill located in the United States town of Rumford, Maine. The mill has two kraft pulp lines and three paper machines. The mill produces 460,000 tonnes of kraft pulp and 565,000 tonnes of paper annually. The mill has 621 employees as of 2016. Now owned by ND Paper LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Nine Dragons Paper Holdings Limited, the mill is now known as ND Paper–Rumford Mill. The mill was established in 1901 by Hugh J. Chisholm. He had established the Portland and Rumford Falls Railway, which was completed in 1892 and aimed at exploiting the falls to manufacture paper. The Oxford Paper Company grew out of this mill and remained owned by the Chisholm family until 1967.
