Maine Lumberjacks
Maine Lumberjacks were an American minor league basketball team formed as an expansion team in 1978. The franchise played 17 seasons in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA), calling six different cities home. The team was originally based in Bangor, Maine. History Bay State Bombardiers (1983-86) After five seasons in Bangor the team was relocated to Brockton, Massachusetts and were renamed the Bay State Bombardiers. After one season in Brockton, the Bombardiers moved their home games to Worcester, Mass., and the Worcester Auditorium. The 1985-86 season was the most successful in franchise history, going 30-18 (third-best in the CBA) during the regular season. The Bombardiers eliminated the Baltimore Lightning in the first round of the playoffs but fell to eventual champion Tampa Bay Thrillers in the Eastern Division Finals. Rochester Zeniths (basketball)
The Rochester Zeniths were a professional basketball team in the Continental Basketball Association. They played in Henrietta, New York, a suburb of Rochester at the Dome Arena and in downtown Rochester, New York at (what is now known as) the Blue Cross Arena at the War Memorial. They existed for six basketball seasons, winning two league titles and generally had great success on the basketball court before they disbanded after the 1982/83 season. James Terry (basketball)
James Louis Terry (ג'יימס טרי; born November 26, 1960) is an American-Israeli former basketball player. He played the center position. He played in the Israeli Premier League between 1983 and 1996. Biography Terry was born in Cleveland, Ohio. He is 6' 11" (211 cm) tall, and weighs 220 pounds. He attended Howard University ('82), and played basketball for the Howard Bison from 1978 to 1982. In 2016, Terry was inducted into the Howard University Athletic Hall of Fame. Terry was drafted in the 1982 NBA Draft in Round 9, Pick 196, by the Washington Wizards. In 1982, Terry played 44 games for the Maine Lumberjacks in the Continental Basketball Association. That year he converted to Judaism. Randy Owens
Randolph Owens (May 12, 1959 – December 1, 2015) was an American basketball player. He played the center and forward positions. He was drafted in the 1980 NBA Draft in Round 6 by the Indiana Pacers. He played in the Continental Basketball Association for three years, in the Israel Basketball Premier League for five years, and in a number of other countries. Biography Owens was 6' 7" (2.01 m) tall, and weighed 180 pounds (82 kg). He attended Germantown High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Owens then attended Philadelphia College of Textiles & Science (now known as Thomas Jefferson University). He played basketball there. As a sophomore in 1978-79, he was 19th in the NCAA Division II with a field goal percentage of .588, and was a National Association of Basketball Coaches Division II Second Team All American. Joe Dawson (Hebrew: ג'ו דאוסן; born May 16, 1960) is an American-Israeli former professional basketball player. He played high school basketball at Druid High School in his native Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and played four years of college basketball for the Southern Miss Golden Eagles, leading the team in scoring and rebounding multiple times and was an all-conference selection. After going undrafted in the 1982 NBA draft, he started his professional career in the Continental Basketball Association, and was selected as an all-star in each of the three seasons he played there. After a brief experience in the USBL he moved abroad, playing in Venezuela and France (where he was the LNB Pro A top scorer). The Quad City Thunder was a Continental Basketball Association franchise that was based in the Quad Cities of Illinois and Iowa. The Savannah Spirits were a professional basketball team that played for two years in the Continental Basketball Association from 1986 to 1988, amassing a total regular season record of 42 wins and 60 losses for a total of 306.5 points. The team originally began play in the 1982–1983 season as the Detroit Spirits, compiling a record of 26–18, winning the Central Division title; they defeated the Rochester Zeniths for the Conference title and the Montana Golden Nuggets for the CBA title. The La Crosse Bobcats were a Continental Basketball Association basketball team located in La Crosse, Wisconsin, from 1996 to the league's bankruptcy in February 2001.
