Maine AFL–CIO
The Maine AFL–CIO is a federation of AFL–CIO-affiliated trade union, labor unions in the state of Maine. The federation lobbies the state legislature and executive branch on issues important to its members, assists its state and local affiliate unions in organizing new members, conducts training and educational programs, and conducts research into labor-related issues such as workplace health and safety, health care, wages and benefits and more. The Maine AFL–CIO also sponsors the Maine Women's Labor Institute, which trains working women in how to become more effective union leaders and political activists. Governance Membership in the Maine AFL–CIO is open to all member unions of the AFL–CIO. The membership meets in a general convention in odd-numbered years. Service Employees International Union (SEIU) is a labor union representing 2 million workers in over 100 occupations in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. SEIU is focused on organizing workers in three sectors: healthcare (over half of members work in the healthcare field), including hospital, home care and nursing home workers; public services (government employees, including law enforcement); and property services (including janitors, security guards and food service workers). The Maine Service Employees Association (formerly Maine State Employees Association) is a public sector trade union in the U.S. state of Maine. It has been part of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU Local 1989) since 1988, though it formed earlier. Its newspaper is called the ''Maine Stater.'' Change To Win Federation
The Strategic Organizing Center (SOC), formerly known as the Change to Win Federation (CtW), is a coalition of North American labor unions originally formed in 2005 as an alternative to the AFL–CIO. The coalition is associated with strong advocacy of the organizing model. The coalition currently consists of Service Employees International Union (SEIU), the United Farm Workers (UFW), and the Communications Workers of America (CWA), the latter of which is affiliated with both the SOC and the AFL–CIO. Michael Zucker is currently listed as the Executive Director of the organization since 2020. Michael Herman Michaud ( ; born January 18, 1955) is an American businessman and politician from Maine. Michaud served as the U.S. representative for from 2003 to 2015. He is a member of the Democratic Party. The primarily rural district comprises nearly 80% of the state by area and includes the cities of Lewiston, Auburn, Bangor, Presque Isle, and Ellsworth.
