Main-Taunus
Main-Taunus is an electoral constituency (German: ''Wahlkreis'') represented in the Bundestag. It elects one member via first-past-the-post voting. Under the current constituency numbering system, it is designated as constituency 181. It is located in southern Hesse, comprising the Main-Taunus-Kreis district and small parts of the Hochtaunuskreis district. Main-Taunus was created for the 2002 federal election. Since 2017, it has been represented by Norbert Altenkamp of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). Geography Main-Taunus is located in southern Hesse. As of the 2021 federal election, it comprises the entirety of the Main-Taunus-Kreis district as well as the municipalities of Königstein im Taunus, Kronberg im Taunus, and Steinbach (Taunus) from the Hochtaunuskreis district. Main-Taunus is a Kreis (district) in the middle of Hessen, Germany and is part of the Frankfurt/Rhine-Main Metropolitan Region as well as the Frankfurt urban area. Neighboring districts are Hochtaunuskreis, district-free Frankfurt, Groß-Gerau, district-free Wiesbaden, Rheingau-Taunus. It is the second most densely populated rural district in Germany. History Before the era of Napoleon, the area was divided into many small bits and pieces of independent states. Hofheim (; officially known as Hofheim am Taunus) is the administrative centre of Main-Taunus-Kreis district, in the south of the German state of Hesse. Its population in September 2020 was 39,946. Geography Location The town is located on the south side of the Taunus hills, 17 km west of Frankfurt and 17 km east of both Wiesbaden and Mainz; Frankfurt Airport is 12 km to the southeast. Norbert Altenkamp
Norbert Altenkamp (born 27 July 1972) is a German politician of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) who has been serving as a member of the Bundestag since 2017. He previously served as mayor of Bad Soden. Early life and education Altenkamp was born in Marl, North Rhine-Westphalia. After his Abitur, he took up an apprenticeship as a bank teller at Dresdner Bank in Essen, followed by studying economics at the University of Münster. Political career Altenkamp entered the CDU in 1990. From 2004 to 2017, he was mayor of Bad Soden. He was first elected in 2003 with 63.3% of the vote and was re-elected in 2009 and 2015. Hattersheim am Main () is a town in the Main-Taunus district, Hesse (Germany) and part of the Frankfurt Rhein-Main urban area. Geography Neighbouring towns Hattersheim borders the city of Frankfurt in the northeast, in the southeast with Kelsterbach, in the southwest with Raunheim (both are in the district of Groß-Gerau). Kelkheim (), officially "Kelkheim (Taunus)", is a town in the Main-Taunus district in Hesse, Germany, close to Germany's financial center Frankfurt/Main. Heinz Friedrich Ruppert Riesenhuber (born 1 December 1935) is a German politician ( CDU) who served as Minister of Scientific Research under Chancellor Helmut Kohl from 1982 to 1993. Bettina Stark-Watzinger ( Stark, born 12 May 1968) is a German economist and politician of the Free Democratic Party (FDP) who has been serving as Minister of Education and Research in Chancellor Olaf Scholz's cabinet since 2021. Steinbach is a town in the Hochtaunuskreis that borders Frankfurt am Main to the east. Other neighbouring towns are Oberursel, Kronberg im Taunus and Eschborn. It is in the German state of Hesse.
