Andrée Maillet
Andrée Maillet (June 7, 1921 – December 3, 1995), was a Quebec writer. Biography The daughter of Corinne Dupuis and Roger Maillet, she was born in Montreal and began writing by the age of eleven. Maillet began a career in journalism and, from 1943 to 1952, was a correspondent in the United States and Europe. She was a member of the Anglo-American Press Association of Paris for a number of years. From 1952 to 1960, she was director of the magazine ''Amérique française''. She wrote for ''Photo-Journal'' and was a columnist for the ''Petit Journal'' which was owned by her father. Maillet founded the French-Canadian chapter of the PEN club. She ran as a candidate for the Rassemblement pour l'Indépendance Nationale in the Westmount provincial riding in 1966, placing fourth. Maillet married Loyd Hamlyn Hobden. Benoît de Maillet (Saint-Mihiel, 12 April 1656 – Marseille, 30 January 1738) was a well-travelled French diplomat and natural historian. He was French consul general at Cairo, and overseer in the Levant. He formulated an evolutionary hypothesis to explain the origin of the earth and its contents. De Maillet's geological observations convinced him that the earth could not have been created in an instant because the features of the crust indicate a slow development by natural processes. He also believed that creatures on the land were ultimately derived from creatures living in the seas. He believed in the natural origin of man. Jacques-Léonard Maillet (12 July 1823 - 14 February 1894) was a French academic sculptor of modest reputation, whose themes were of neoclassical and biblical inspiration; his public commissions were in large part for the programs of decorative architectural sculpture required by the grandiose public works programs characteristic of the Second Empire, which included commemorative portraits of French culture heroes. He also provided models for goldsmith's work. Maillet was born in Paris, the son of a ''menuisier'', or carver of furniture and panelling, of the working-class district, the Faubourg Saint-Antoine. She previously competed in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series and was the former CEO of Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps for five years before her passing in 2021.
