Maik Beermann
Maik Beermann (born 19 October 1981) is a German politician of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) who served as a member of the German Bundestag from 2013 to 2021. Early life and career Beermann was born in Nienburg/Weser. After completing secondary school, He trained as a banker. Since 2009 he has been Market Area Manager at Sparkasse Nienburg. Political career Beermann joined the Junge Union in 1997 and the CDU in 2001. From 2007 to 2012 he was district chairman of the Junge Union in the district of Nienburg. Since 2001 he is active as a member of the municipal council and in 2011, he became deputy mayor of the municipality Steimbke. From 2006 to 2016 Beermann was a member of the municipal council of Steimbke and since 2011 chairman of the school board and member of the finance committee of the municipal council. Same-sex marriage in Germany has been legal since 1 October 2017. A bill for the legalisation of same-sex marriage passed the Bundestag on 30 June 2017 and the Bundesrat on 7 July. It was signed into law on 20 July by President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and published in the '' Federal Law Gazette'' on 28 July 2017. Previously, the governing CDU/CSU had refused to legislate on the issue of same-sex marriage. In June 2017, Chancellor Angela Merkel unexpectedly said she hoped the matter would be put to a conscience vote in the Bundestag in the near future. Nienburg (district)
Nienburg () is a district (''Landkreis'') in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is bounded by (from the west and clockwise) the districts of Diepholz, Verden, Heidekreis, Hanover and Schaumburg, and by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (district of Minden-Lübbecke). History From the early Middle Ages to the end of the 16th century this region was the heart of the County of Hoya. The ruling family became extinct in 1582, and the central and southern parts of the county were annexed by the Lüneburg branch of the duchy of Brunswick-Lüneburg. In 1705 the area of Nienburg and Hoya became subordinate to Hanover. In 1866 the Kingdom of Hanover was annexed by Prussia.
