Mai Hontama (本玉真唯) (born 30 August 1999) is a Japanese tennis player. Hontama has a career-high singles ranking by the WTA of 126, achieved March 2022. She also has a career-high doubles ranking of world No. 157, set on 22 May 2023. Career Hontama made her WTA Tour main-draw debut at the 2021 Chicago Fall Tennis Classic, after qualifying for the main draw. She reached the quarterfinals, defeating former world No. 4, Caroline Garcia, in the first round, before falling to Garbiñe Muguruza. She made her Grand Slam debut at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships where she recorded the first major match win in her career over Clara Tauson. The Qatar Ladies Open, currently sponsored by TotalEnergies and called the Qatar TotalEnergies Open, is a women's tennis tournament held in Doha, Qatar. Held since 2001, this WTA Tour event was a Tier I-tournament in 2008, and was played on outdoor hardcourts. WTA 1000 tournaments is a category of tennis tournaments on the WTA Tour, governed by the Women's Tennis Association. The old WTA Premier Mandatory and Premier 5 tournaments merged into a single highest tier and it is implemented since the reorganization of the schedule in 2021. As of 2021, WTA 1000 tournaments include events with prize money of approximately $1,000,000. The US Open Tennis Championships is a hardcourt tennis tournament held annually in Queens, New York.
