Marion Mahony Griffin
Marion Mahony Griffin (; February 14, 1871 – August 10, 1961) was an American architect and artist. She was one of the first licensed female architects in the world, and is considered an original member of the Prairie School. Her work in the United States developed and expanded the American Prairie School, and her work in India and Australia reflected Prairie School ideals of indigenous landscape and materials in the newly formed democracies. The scholar Deborah Wood stated that Griffin "did the drawings people think of when they think of Frank Lloyd Wright (one of her collaborating architects)." Bertha Mahony
Bertha Mahony (1882–1969), also known as Bertha Mahony Miller, is considered a figurehead of the children's literature movement. She created one of the first children's bookstores in Boston, Massachusetts. Mahony was also the founder of the ''Horn Book Magazine''. Besides being the oldest magazine of its kind in America, ''Horn Book'' remains one of the most well-known arbiters of excellence in children's publishing. Mahony was also responsible for the creation of the Horn Book, Inc. publishing company. Background Mahony was born on March 13, 1882, in Rockport, Massachusetts. William Mahony (bishop)
William Mahony, SMA was an Irish Catholic prelate who served as bishop of Roman Catholic Diocese of Ilorin, 29 April 1919 – 15 November 1994. The son of Mick and Mary Mahony of Derrybrien, Slieve Aughty, Mahony had two sisters and three brothers. His father, grandfather and two of his brothers were blacksmiths, a motif he incorporated into his coat of arms as a bishop. Mahony was at the Gort sheep fair when he heard the call of God to become a priest, joining the Society of African Missions in 1936. He studied in Ballinafad Co. Mayo, Cork, Galway, Newry and London. William Mahony (New South Wales Politician)
William Henry Mahony (9 February 1856 – 26 July 1918) was an Australian politician. He was born in Adelaide to builder Timothy Mahony and Elizabeth Johns. He was educated at Sydney Grammar School and was articled as a solicitor's clerk to Robert Burdett Smith in 1877. In 1882 he was admitted to practice as a solicitor. In 1894 he was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly as the Free Trade Free trade is a trade policy that does not restrict imports or exports. William Mahony (politician, Born 1877)
William George Mahony (1877 – 28 August 1962) was an Australian politician. Born in Ireland, Mahony migrated to Australia as a child. He was raised in Balmain, where he received a primary education before becoming a grocer's assistant. He was the first secretary of the Grocers' Assistants' Union, and was involved in its amalgamation into the Shop Assistants' Union. In the by-election that resulted from the death of Robert Howe in 1915, Mahony was elected unopposed to the Australian House of Representatives as the Labor member for Dalley. He held the seat until 1927, when he resigned and was succeeded by the former Premier of Queensland, Ted Theodore. Following his resignation, he purchased a sub-lease of the Commercial Hotel at Balmain East in June 1927, but sold it again in November. Tom Mahony
Thomas Mahony was an Irish sportsperson. He played hurling with his local club Dungourney and was a member of the Cork senior inter-county team from 1902 until 1907. Playing career Club Mahony played his hurling with his local club in Dungourney and enjoyed some success. He won a county senior championship title in 1902. Two more county winners’ medals followed for Mahony in 1907 and 1909. Inter-county Mahony first came to prominence on the inter-county scene with Cork as part of the Dungourney selection in 1902. Roger Mahony
Roger Michael Mahony (born February 27, 1936) is an American cardinal and retired prelate of the Catholic Church who served as Archbishop of Los Angeles from 1985 to 2011. Before his appointment, he served as Auxiliary Bishop of Fresno from 1975 to 1980 and Bishop of Stockton from 1980 to 1985. Born in the Hollywood district of Los Angeles and raised in the city's San Fernando Valley, Mahony was ordained to the priesthood in the Diocese of Monterey-Fresno in 1962. He was appointed auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Fresno in January 1975 and consecrated bishop in March 1975. Mahony was then appointed Bishop of Stockton in 1980. In 1985, he was appointed Archbishop of Los Angeles by Pope John Paul II, and became the first Los Angeles native to hold the office. Robert Mahony
Robert Mahony (3 October 1872 – 8 February 1961) was an Irish-born Australian politician. He was born in Cork to shipwright William Mahony and Bridget Manning. The family migrated to Sydney in 1877 and Robert was educated at a Balmain convent before becoming a boilermaker. In July 1895 he married Margaret Jane Mahony, with whom he had eight children. President of the Balmain Labour League in 1891, he was foundation secretary of the Ship, Painters and Dockers' Union in 1900 and was general secretary of the federated union from 1915 to 1945. He was active in the campaign against conscription during World War I, and was campaign director for John Storey. Philip Mahony (hurler)
Philip Mahony (born 9 January 1991) is an Irish hurler who plays for Waterford Senior Championship club Ballygunner. He played for the Waterford senior hurling team for 10 years, during which time he usually lined out as a left wing-back. Mahony began his hurling career at club level with Ballygunner. After enjoying a hugely successful underage career, which saw him claim a collective total of seven championship medals at minor and under-21 levels, he joined the club's senior team while still a minor.
