Mahitha Mohan
Mahitha Mohan is an Indian cyclist who has been national champion in multiple road, track, and mountain bike events. At the 2010 South Asian Games, she was the 50 km Mass Start gold medal winner. She was named India's best cyclist in 2010. Biography Mahitha Mohan started competitive cycling in 2002, at the age of 14, following her elder brother Santhanu into the sport. With the family living in Thodupuzha, a small town in Kerala, India, the nearest cycling track for training was located at Trivandrum, a more than 5-hour drive away. Team Pursuit
The team pursuit is a track cycling event similar to the individual pursuit, except that two teams, each of up to four riders, compete, starting on opposite sides of the velodrome. Race format Both men's and women's events are competed over a distance of 4 km, by a team of 4 riders. Prior to the start of the 2012–13 season the women's event was competed over a distance of 3 km, by a team of 3 riders. As with the individual pursuit, the objective is to cover the distance in the fastest time or to catch and overtake the other team in a final. Riders in a team follow each other closely in line, drafting to minimize total drag, and periodically the lead rider (who works the hardest) peels off the front, swings up the track banking and rejoins the team at the rear. Scratch Race
A scratch race is a track cycling race in which all riders start together and the objective is simply to be first over the finish line after a certain number of laps. UCI regulations specify that a scratch race should be held over 15 km for Elite Men and 10 km for Elite Women. Shorter distances of 10 km for men and 7.5 km for women may be used for qualifying rounds. Racers line up along the inner sprinter's rail and along the outer railing. The riders take a neutralised lap before the starting pistol is fired for the official start. A lapped rider must leave the race once they are overtaken by the peloton. There are no intermediate points or sprints. One tactic is for a rider, or more often a group of riders, to break away and attempt to gain a lap on the rest of the field. The sprint or match sprint is a track cycling event involving between two and four riders, though it is usually run as a one-on-one match race between opponents who, unlike in the individual pursuit, start next to each other. Men's sprint has been an Olympic event at every games except 1904 (which had races at seven different distances) and 1912 (which had no track cycling events). Women's sprints have been contested at every Olympics since 1988. Racing style Depending on the size of the velodrome, this event can be from 250 m to 1000 m. The 2007 National Games, also known as the ''33rd National Games of India'' and informally as Assam 2007 was the 33rd edition of the National Games of India, held from 9 February 2007 to 18 February 2007 in Guwahati, Assam, India.
