Thomas Mahieu
Thomas Mahieu (born between 1515 and 1527 – died after 1588), also known as Thomas Maiolus, was a French courtier and bibliophile with a special interest in decorative bookbindings. Mahieu was advisor and secretary to Henry II of France, personal secretary to Catherine de' Medici from 1549 to 1560, and subsequently Treasurer-General of France. His book collection is considered second only to that of Jean Grolier, who is considered Mahieu's mentor and spiritual father. Mahieu and Grolier used similar Latin ownership inscriptions on their bindings. " Mahieu used the Latinized form of his name on bookplates, ''Maiolus'', which for centuries was mistaken for an Italian surname. It was not discovered until 1926 that Maiolus, the otherwise unattested supposed Italian, and Mahieu, the prominent French politician, were the same person. Today, about 120 books are ascribed to Mahieu. Bindings France had taken over from Italy as the center of artistic bookbinding during the early sixteenth ...

Mahieu De Gant
Mahieu de Gant ('' fl.'' mid–late 13th century) was a Flemish trouvère (poet- composer) from Ghent associated with the so-called "school of Arras". He has been conflated with Mahieu le Juif, but the same manuscript containing both their works clearly distinguishes them. His career can only be dated because of those with whom he composed '' jeux partis'', which includes Robert de la Piere, who died in 1258. All of Mahieu's melodies are in bar form Bar form (German: ''die Barform'' or ''der Bar'') is a musical form of the pattern AAB. Mahieu Le Juif
Mahieu le Juif was an Old French trouvère. His name means "Matthew the Jew" and, if his own songs are to be believed, he was a convert from Judaism to Christianity. Only two of his songs survive, one with a melody. He has been conflated with Mahieu de Gant, but the same manuscript that contains both their works clearly distinguishes them. Mahieu's song, ''Par grant franchise'' (RS 782), was very widely copied and today exists in twelve chansonniers, including one in Occitan. It recounts how the ''je'' (the first-person persona, perhaps to be equated with Mahieu himself) converted from Judaism to Christianity for the sake of his lady. Instead of love, however, he is ridiculed by her. The melody shows some variation between sources and there is intertextual similarity between a piece of the troubadour Albertet de Sestaro and ''Par grant'', but the direction of any influence of the one on the other cannot be ascertained: though Jeanroy assumed that the trouvère was influenced by the ...

Mahieu De Quercy
Matieu de Caersi, Caerci, or Querci was a troubadour from the Quercy. According to the rubric accompanying his only song in troubadour manuscript ''C'',A 14th-century manuscript from Occitania, now filed as BN f.f. 856 in the Bibliothèque nationale de France, Paris. he was ''Mayestre Matieus de Caersi'', that is, a Master of Arts from Quercy, possibly Cahors. He is not to be identified with the Matheus who composed a ''tenso'' with Bertram de Gordon in 1212. Matieu's lone surviving song is ' ("I am so afflicted that I cannot be happy"), a ''planh'' on the death of James I of Aragon (died 26 August 1276). It is often compared and contrasted with another ''planh'' on James' death composed by Cerverí de Girona, ''Si per tristor, per dol no per cossir''. Cerverí's piece is direct and almost personal, as the troubadour asks the Virgin Mary to show as much mercy to James as he showed on earth, referring to his establishing the Mercedarian Order in Barcelona. Matieu, on the other hand ...
