Mahatma Gandhi Marg is the main pedestrian road located in the downtown Gangtok, Sikkim. History In 2008, the North Eastern Council under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region undertook the project of ''“Upgradation and Remodelling of existing distribution system of Mahatma Gandhi Road and its surrounding areas, Gangtok.”'' As of 2015, Mahatma Gandhi Marg is the only road in Gangtok which has divided carriageway. Gangtok is a city, municipality, the capital and the largest populated place of the Indian state of Sikkim. It is also the headquarters of the East Sikkim district, Gangtok District. North Eastern Council (NEC) is a statutory advisory body constituted under the North Eastern Council Act 1971 and came into being on 7 November 1972 at Shillong. The eight States of Northeast India viz.
