Magnolia High School is a public high school in New Martinsville, West Virginia, United States. It is one of four high schools in the Wetzel County School District. Athletic teams compete as the Magnolia Blue Eagles in the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission as a member of the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference. History Mascot Magnolia's sports teams are now known as the "Blue Eagles". However, prior to 1933, the teams were known as the Blue Blizzard. The school changed the mascot to the Blue Eagles, the symbol of Franklin Roosevelt's National Recovery Act. Facility The current building is the fifth incarnation of the school, having been built in 1987–1988 and opened for use in the 1988–89 school year. The building is built on the site of the fourth building, which was built in 1923 to house a rapidly growing student population. Cavalcade Of Bands
The Cavalcade of Bands is one of many competitive band organizations in the United States and is one of several major circuits in the mid-Atlantic states (other circuits include Tournament of Bands and USBands). Cavalcade was founded in the late 1958 by the members of the Mid-Atlantic Judges Association and its member high schools. The organization currently has over 145 member schools. It provides competitive performance opportunities for marching bands and jazz ensembles. Cavalcade sanctions approximately 42 field band events as well as about 25 jazz ensemble events annually. Formerly, Cavalcade also sanctioned indoor percussion, color guard, and dance team competitionsbut for the 2020 season have discontinued this aspect of their program. Bill Stewart (football Coach)
William L. Stewart (June 11, 1952 – May 21, 2012), nicknamed "Stew", was an American football coach. He was named interim head coach of the West Virginia Mountaineers after Rich Rodriguez left for Michigan in December 2007. After leading the Mountaineers to a 48–28 victory over the Oklahoma Sooners in the Fiesta Bowl, he was named the school’s 32nd head football coach on January 3, 2008.
