Magnar Norderhaug
Magnar Norderhaug (21 July 1939 – 22 April 2006) was a Norwegian zoologist and ecologist. Biography He was a cand.real. by education. He worked at the Norwegian Polar Institute from 1967 to 1972, in Vestfold County Municipality from 1972 to 1973, as the Southern Norway inspector of nature protection from 1973 to 1985, then for the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation from 1985 to 1989. From 1989 he chaired the Nordic branch of the Worldwatch Institute. He was also among the founders of Greenpeace in Norway in 1988, as well as a board member of the Norwegian Society for the Conservation of Nature. He published several books. Greenpeace is an independent global campaigning network, founded in Canada in 1971 by Irving Stowe and Dorothy Stowe, immigrant environmental activists from the United States. The Norwegian Society for the Conservation of Nature ( no, Norges Naturvernforbund, NNV), also known as Friends of the Earth Norway, is one of the largest Norwegian environmental organisations with approximately 24,000 members. The organisation is based on a volunteer work among the members, constituting work both at local and national levels. Norges Naturvernforbund works within a large range of environmental areas. The organisation is affiliated with Friends of the Earth, and member of INFORSE-Europe. The Worldwatch Institute was a globally focused environmental research organization based in Washington, D.C., founded by Lester R. Brown. Worldwatch was named as one of the top ten sustainable development research organizations by Globescan Survey of Sustainability Experts. Brown left to found the Earth Policy Institute in 2000. The Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad) is a directorate under the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In matters regarding Norway's International Climate and Forest Initiative (NICFI), Norad reports to the Norwegian Ministry of Climate and Environment. Norad's functions are laid down in the agency's terms of references and annual letters of allocation issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Climate and Environment.
