Magnar Estenstad
Magnar Estenstad (27 September 1924 – 13 May 2004) was a Norwegian cross-country skier. Next year he was awarded the Holmenkollen medal. Domestically he won the 50 km Norwegian title in 1948–1949 and 1952–1954. In 1950 he won the national 30 km title and placed seventh over 50 km at the world championships. In 1954, after winning the 50 km national title he was about to win the 30 km race, but fell and broke his thigh bone one kilometer away from the finish. Hølonda
Hølonda is a former municipality in the old Sør-Trøndelag county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1865 until its dissolution in 1964. Hølonda encompassed the southwestern part of what is now the municipality of Melhus in Trøndelag county. The municipality was west of the river Gaula. The administrative centre was the village of Korsvegen. The main church for the municipality was Hølonda Church, near Gåsbakken. History The municipality of ''Høilandet'' (later changed to ''Hølonda'') was established in 1865 when it was separated from the old municipality of Melhus. The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 1950 took place during February 1–6, 1950 in Lake Placid, New York, United States and Rumford, Maine, United States. This was Lake Placid's second time hosting the championships after having done so at the 1932 Winter Olympics. It also marked the first time after World War II the event took place after the Winter Olympics in a non-Olympic year ( St. Moritz, Switzerland hosted the 1948 Winter Olympics two years earlier), the second time the world championships occurred outside Europe, the first time they had occurred outside Europe in a non-Olympic year, and the only time the United States has hosted the event in a non-Olympic year.
