Magic Hour (Cast Album)
''Magic Hour'' is the third album by the English band Cast, released in 1999. "Beat Mama" and the title track were both released as singles, and reached number nine and number 28 on the UK Singles Chart respectively. Critical reception Mike DeGagne of AllMusic gave praise to Power's songwriting being "way above 1997's ''Mother Nature Calls''" and his musicianship being "extremely sharp" throughout the track listing, while also highlighting Peter Wilkinson's performance as "more professional and orefocused" than with his other bands, concluding that: "Even though none of the songs can match the strength of " Guiding Star" €¦''Magic Hour'' still stands up as the group's second best recording." In a retrospective review, Jamie Atkins of ''Record Collector'' said the album and its successor ''Beetroot'' showcase a band attempting to "break new ground ..It all just lacks wit, imagination and conviction". Cast are an English indie rock band formed in Liverpool in 1992 by John Power (musician), John Power (vocals, guitar) and Peter Wilkinson (bass guitarist), Peter Wilkinson (backing vocals, bass) after Power left The La's and Wilkinson's former band Shack (band), Shack had split. Following early line-ups with different guitarists and drummers, Liam Tyson, Liam "Skin" Tyson (guitar) and Keith O'Neill (drums) joined Cast in 1993. ''Record Collector'' is a British monthly music magazine. It was founded in 1980 and distributes worldwide. History The early years The first standalone issue of ''Record Collector'' was published in March 1980, though its history stretches back further. In 1963, publisher Sean O'Mahony (alias Johnny Dean) had launched an official Beatles magazine, ''The Beatles Book''. Although it shut down in 1969, ''The Beatles Book'' reappeared in 1976 due to popular demand. UK Albums Chart
The Official Albums Chart is a list of albums ranked by physical and digital sales and (from March 2015) audio streaming in the United Kingdom. It was published for the first time on 22 July 1956 and is compiled every week by the Official Charts Company (OCC) on Fridays (previously Sundays). It is broadcast on BBC Radio 1 (top 5) and found on the OCC website as a Top 100 or on UKChartsPlus as a Top 200, with positions continuing until all sales have been tracked in data only available to industry insiders. However, even though number 100 was classed as a hit album (as in the case of The Guinness Book of British Hit Albums) in the 1980s until January 1989, since the compilations were removed this definition was changed to Top 75 with follow-up books such as The Virgin Book of British Hit Albums book only including this data. Bob Ludwig
Robert C. Ludwig (born c. 1945) is an American mastering engineer. He has mastered recordings on all the major recording formats for all the major record labels, and on projects by more than 1,300 artists including Led Zeppelin, Lou Reed, Queen, Jimi Hendrix, Bryan Ferry, Paul McCartney, Nirvana, Bruce Springsteen and Daft Punk resulting in over 3,000 credits. He is the recipient of numerous Grammy and TEC Awards. Biography At the age of eight in South Salem, New York, Ludwig was so fascinated with his first tape recorder, that he used to make recordings of whatever was on the radio. Liam Tyson
Liam Sean "Skin" Tyson (born 7 September 1969 in Liverpool) is an English guitarist, best known as the lead guitarist for Cast. Tyson's first band, Pyramid Dream, gigged regularly around Liverpool in the late 1980s and early '90s. The band released one cassette album and appeared on compilation LP "One Summer In Liverpool". In 1991, the band toured Russia as part of a cultural exchange tour organised by Liverpool City Council. Tyson didn't contribute greatly to the compositions of this band, however his contribution lying in "total dedication to his instrument". Leslie Peter Wilkinson (born 9 May 1969 in Liverpool) in an English bass player and singer-songwriter, formerly of Shack, Cast, and Echo & the Bunnymen. He is currently concentrating on his Aviator project and has recorded and released an album with Michael Blyth as Michael Blyth and the Wild Braid, getting 4/5 star reviews in ''Uncut/Mojo/Maverick'' and ''Classic Rock''. John Power (singer-songwriter)
John Timothy Power (born 14 September 1967) is an English singer, songwriter and rhythm guitarist. He was the frontman of 1990s Indie rock band Cast, and the bassist and backing vocalist for The La's from 1986 to 1991. Following the dissolution of Cast in 2001, Power embarked on a solo career. In 2005, he briefly reunited with the La's, who split up again without releasing new material. Cast reformed in 2010, releasing the album '' Troubled Times'' in March 2012, followed by ''Kicking Up the Dust'' in April 2017. Power was born in Allerton, Liverpool. The La's Having previously struggled to find a permanent bass player since their formation, the La's recruited then 18-year-old John Power in July 1986 after he met Mike Badger at a course for unemployed musicians.
