Maggie Steffens
Margaret Ann Steffens (born June 4, 1993) is an American water polo player. She won the gold medal with the United States at the 2012, 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics. At the 2020 Summer Olympics, Steffens set a new Olympic record for the most number of goals scored by an individual player in women's water polo at the Olympic Games. Early career Steffens played water polo at Monte Vista High School and helped the team win their league championship in 2007, 2008, and 2009. She also played for Diablo Water Polo in Alamo, California. College career Steffens attended Stanford University, playing on the women's water polo team from 2013 to 2017. Steffens lead the team to NCAA championships in 2014, 2015, and 2017, and to second-place finishes in 2013 and 2016. In 2015, Steffens scored four goals in the semifinal game against USC, which Stanford won, 9-8. 2022 World Aquatics Championships
The 2022 World Aquatics Championships, the 19th edition of the FINA World Aquatics Championships, were held in Budapest, Hungary, from 17 June to 3 July 2022. In March 2022, after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, FINA banned both the Russian and Belarusian nationals from entering the championships. Host selection Originally, Budapest was selected to host the 2021 World Aquatics Championships. However, after Guadalajara, Mexico, pulled out from the organization of the 2017 Championships, the city took the responsibility for hosting the event, since the infrastructure was already fully ready. FINA Water Polo World League
The FINA Water Polo World League was an international water polo league organized by FINA, which plays annually, typically from winter through to June. League play featured continental tournaments for men and women, from which the top teams emerged to play in the championship tournament (the "Super Final") where the league champion team is crowned. Men's league play began in 2002, to capitalize on increased worldwide popularity of water polo created by the 2000 Olympic Games, especially in Europe, North America and Australia.
