Madhusudan Law College
Madhusudan Law University formerly Madhusudan Law College is the oldest Law Institute (now a university) of the State of Odisha. The college is situated at Municipal Colony in Cuttack in the Indian state of Odisha. It offers 3 years LL.B.(Hons.), 5 years Integrated B.A., LL.B.(Hons) and 2 years LL.M. course approved from Bar Council of India (BCI). History In 1869 the law course was introduced in the Ravenshaw Collegiate School, Cuttack. thereafter it continued in the Ravenshaw College. That time the Bachelor of Law course was under the University of Calcutta and after the foundation of Utkal University in 1943 the Madhusudan Law College was also established in the same year. Bar Council Of India
The Bar Council of India is a statutory body established under the section 4 of Advocates Act 1961 that regulates the legal practice and legal education in India. Its members are elected from amongst the lawyers in India and as such represents the Indian bar. It prescribes standards of professional conduct, etiquettes and exercises disciplinary jurisdiction over the bar. Cuttack (, or officially Kataka ) in Odia is the former capital and the second largest city in the Indian state of Odisha. It is the headquarters of the Cuttack district. Gopanarayan Das (1 March 1948 – 15 September 2022) was an Indian advocate and politician who served in the Orissa Legislative Assembly from 1985 to 1990. Das represented the Balasore Assembly constituency as a member of the Indian National Congress. Biography Education Gopanarayan Das was born on 1 March 1948. He first gained an interest in politics in the 1960s while he was a student at Fakir Mohan University in Balasore, becoming a student leader and organizing protests. Due to an ongoing state of emergency declaration, Das was drafted into the Indian Army in 1967, serving for a year in Siliguri with the Mahar Regiment. Das later studied law at Madhusudan Law University in Cuttack; while at this university, he was narrowly defeated in an election for student president. Justice Gopal Ballav Pattanaik (born 19 December 1937) is an Indian lawyer and later a jurist who served over a period of 19 years in the bench of the Odisha High Court as a permanent Judge, as Chief Justice of the Patna High Court, Judge of the Supreme Court of India and as the 32nd Chief Justice of India. Rabi Ray (26 November 1926 – 6 March 2017) was an Indian socialist politician, a Gandhian, a speaker of the Lok Sabha and a former Union minister. He hailed from Odisha.
