Edward Madejski
Edward Dominik Jerzy Madejski (11 August 1914 – 15 February 1996) was a Polish football goalkeeper and chemistry engineer, who was a graduate of Mining-Metallurgic Academy in Kraków. For most of his career, Madejski was a goalie of Wisła Kraków; in 11 games for the Poland national football team, letting 33 goals into his net. His debut in white-red Polish jersey took place on 6 September 1936 in Belgrade (Yugoslavia beat Poland 9-3). He was also part of Poland's squad at the 1936 Summer Olympics, but he did not play in any matches. The last game in which he represented Poland was held in Dublin, on 13 November 1938 (Ireland - Poland 3-2). Madejski was famous for taking part in the 5 June 1938 Brazil vs. Poland match in Strasbourg, in which Poland lost 5-6 to Brazil (during this game Ernst Willimowski scored 4 goals for Poland). Sir John Robert Madejski, (; born Robert John Hurst; 28 April 1941) is an English businessman, with commercial interests spanning property, broadcast media, hotels, restaurants, publishing and football. He changed his name when his stepfather, a Polish airman during World War II, returned to England to marry his mother. Madejski is the founder of the magazine which became '' Auto Trader'' and was chairman of Reading F.C., Chancellor of the University of Reading and a Deputy Lieutenant of Berkshire. He is a benefactor to many institutions, especially in academia, education and the arts. The Madejski Stadium (currently known as the Select Car Leasing Stadium for sponsorship reasons) is a football stadium in Reading. It is the home of Reading Football Club, who play in the EFL Championship. It also provides the finish for the Reading Half Marathon. It is an all-seater bowl stadium with a capacity of 24,161 and is located close to the M4 motorway. The West Stand contains the voco Reading Hotel, formerly known as the Millennium Madejski Hotel. The stadium was opened on 22 August 1998 and replaced Elm Park as Reading's home ground. History In January 1990, the Taylor Report made all-seater stadiums compulsory in the top two divisions of English football for the 1994-95 season. Having played in the second tier of the English league several times before, Reading were champions of Division Two in 1994, and were promoted to Division One.
