Madagiz Offensive
The Madagiz offensive, also called the Battle of Madagiz (; ), or the Battle of Sugovushan (), was a military operation launched by Azerbaijan against the self-proclaimed Republic of Artsakh and their Armenian allies during the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war. The offensive began on 28 September, when the Azerbaijani forces advanced towards Armenian positions near the abandoned village of Talish. By 3 October, the Azerbaijani forces had seized control of Talish, and the town of Madagiz. Timeline On 27 September 2020, clashes broke out in the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region, which is ''de facto'' controlled by Artsakh, but ''de jure'' part of Azerbaijan. Talış, Tartar
Talish ( az, Talış, ; hy, Թալիշ) is a village in the Tartar District in Azerbaijan, in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh. The village had an ethnic Armenian-majority population prior to the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war, and also had an Armenian majority in 1989. History During the Soviet period, the village was part of the Mardakert District of the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast. During the course of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the side controlling the village has changed on numerous occasions. During the First Nagorno-Karabakh War, the village last changed hands when the village was recaptured by Armenian forces from the Azerbaijani side on 11 April 1994.
