Maciel Luiz Franco (born 15 March 1972 in Bandeira do Sul), also known as Maciel, is a Brazilian former professional football (soccer), football player. He is considered one of the best foreign players in the K-League. Career Chunnam Dragons Maciel spent seven years playing for South Korean K-League club Chunnam Dragons, from 1997 to 2003. He was awarded K-League Best Eleven for four straight seasons and won the K-League Best Defender of the Year in the 1998 season. He wanted to gain Korean citizenship before the 2002 FIFA World Cup, but abandoned his attempt eventually. Maciel Lima Barbosa da Cunha (born 29 November 1978), known simply as Maciel, is a Brazilian former Association football, footballer who played as a Forward (association football), forward. He spent the vast majority of his professional career in Portugal, amassing Primeira Liga totals of 149 games and 36 goals over the course of seven seasons, mostly for U.D. Leiria, União de Leiria (five years). He also had spells in the country with FC Porto, Porto and S.C. Braga, Braga. Football career Maciel was born in Caxias do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul. Hospital Maciel is a hospital located in 25 de Mayo 174, Old City in Montevideo. It is one of the oldest hospitals in Uruguay. The land was originally donated in Spanish colonial times by philanthropist Francisco Antonio Maciel, who teamed up with Mateo Vidal to establish a hospital and charity. The first building was extended between 1781 and 1788, and later expanded on over time. The actual building is dated to 1825 with the plans of José Toribio (son of Tomás Toribio) and later Bernardo Poncini (wing on the Guaraní street, 1859), Eduardo Canstatt (corner of Guaraní and 25 de Mayo) and Julián Masquelez Julián is the Spanish equivalent of the name Julian.
