Heinz Macher
Heinz Macher (31 December 1919 – 21 December 2001) was a mid-ranking Waffen-SS member and Nazi official during the Second World War. He served as the second personal assistant to ''Reichsführer-SS'' Heinrich Himmler. Career Macher was born in the town of Chemnitz in 1919. He joined the SS in 1940 and was attached to the SS Regiment "Deutschland". In 1943, he received the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross for valor in combat on the Eastern Front. In 1944, he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves and promoted to Sturmbannführer. Macher was appointed the second assistant to Heinrich Himmler in 1944, followed by Werner Grothmann. In 1945, Macher led a group of 15 SS specialists who were ordered by Himmler to blow up the SS castle Wewelsburg near Paderborn in order to ensure that the devotional objects and important files should not fall into the hands of the Allies. Helena Macher
Helena Macher (born 17 October 1937) is a Polish luger who competed in the late 1960s. She won the bronze medal in the women's singles event at the 1967 FIL European Luge Championships in Königssee, West Germany. At the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble, France, she originally finished seventh in the women's singles event, but was awarded fourth place upon the disqualifications of the East German team of Ortrun Enderlein (who finished first), Anna-Maria Müller (second), and Angela Knösel (fourth) when the East Germans were discovered to have their runners being illegally heated. Yiddish words used in the English language include both words that have been assimilated into Englishused by both Yiddish and English speakersand many that have not. Mácher is a village on the Spanish island of Lanzarote, in the municipality of Tias. Demographics and location The village's population is 1,065 inhabitants (INE, 2010). It is situated on the southern island of Lanzarote, about from the capital Arrecife, and from the airport. It is characterized by a dispersed settlement on both sides of Arrecife-Yaiza-Playa Blanca road. It is located very close to Puerto del Carmen, about 2 miles from Puerto Calero. The area was characterized by the cultivation of tomatoes and onions. Onions are grown north of the road, and tomatoes are south. More recently, most of its inhabitants work in tourism and services. Its name possibly derived from the Italian word "Maschera", drifted to Mácheres, and finally Macher.
