Maceió
Maceió (), formerly sometimes Anglicised as Maceio, is the capital and the largest city of the coastal state of Alagoas, Brazil. The name "Maceió" is an Indigenous term for a spring. Most maceiós flow to the sea, but some get trapped and form lakes ("lagoas", in Portuguese). There are numerous maceiós and lakes in this part of Brazil; because of this, the city was named Maceió, and the state, Alagoas. The new Zumbi dos Palmares International Airport connects Maceió with many Brazilian cities and also operates some international flights. The city is home to the Federal University of Alagoas. Etymology The name "Maceió" has origin in the term ''tupi maçayó'' or ''maçaio-k'', that means "what it covers the swamp". Alagoas
Alagoas (, ) is one of the 27 federative units of Brazil and is situated in the eastern part of the Northeast Region. It borders: Pernambuco (N and NW); Sergipe (S); Bahia (SW); and the Atlantic Ocean (E). Its capital is the city of Maceió. It has 1.6% of the Brazilian population and produces 0.8% of the Brazilian GDP. Zumbi Dos Palmares International Airport
Maceió/Zumbi dos Palmares International Airport , formerly called Campo dos Palmares Airport, is the airport serving Maceió, Brazil. Since 16 December 1999 the airport is named after Zumbi dos Palmares (1645–1695) one of the pioneers of resistance to slavery in Brazil. The airport is operated by AENA. History The airport complex underwent major renovation in 2005, in which the passenger terminal and apron were renovated and the runway was extended. Mundaú Lagoon
Mundaú Lagoon is an estuarine lagoon situated west of Maceió, capital city of Alagoas state, in Brazil. Its total area is 24 km². Ponta Verde
Ponta Verde (Portuguese meaning "green tip") is a beach in Maceió, capital city of Alagoas, state with the most beautiful coastline in Brazil. A tip of land that rises out of the sea and is covered by green palm trees. This is the phenomenon that gave its name to one of the most frequented beaches in Maceió. In the past, it housed one of the most famous symbols of the city, “The Rhea Neck”, a palm tree whose trunk resembled a rhea's neck. It was located near the present Yacht Club Alagoas (Clube Alagoinha). The reefs form natural pools and it is very common, during low tides, to see tourists bathing in these pools, especially near the lighthouse. João Henrique Holanda Caldas (born 22 July 1987) often referred to as JHC is a Brazilian politician and lawyer. He has spent his political career representing Alagoas, having served as federal deputy representative since 2011. Personal life Caldas is the son of João Caldas da Silva and Eudócia Maria Holanda de Araújo. His father is also a politician, having served in the chamber of deputies as well. He is an alumnus of the Centro Universitário Cesmac (CESMAC). Caldas is a member of the neo-Pentecostal church Igreja Internacional da Graça de Deus. Caldas has also worked as a lawyer.
