Mace, Indiana
Mace is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Walnut Township, Montgomery County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. History Mace, formerly called "Fredericksburg", was laid out in about 1840 by Frederick Long. A post office was established at Mace in 1853, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1912. Geography Mace is located in eastern Montgomery County. It is bordered to the south by Linnsburg. U.S. Route 136 passes through the community, leading northwest to Crawfordsville, the county seat, and southeast to Jamestown. Downtown Indianapolis is southeast of Mace. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the Mace CDP has an area of , all land. Jamestown, Indiana
Jamestown is a town in Jackson Township, Boone County and Eel River Township, Hendricks County, Indiana, United States. The population was 958 at the 2010 census. History Jamestown was established in 1830, and was platted in 1832. The town was named for its founder, James Mattock. The town served as the original county seat of Boone County until 1831 when the legislature required that the county seat be moved towards the center of the district. In 1869, the Indianapolis, Bloomington and Western Railway (Later the Peoria and Eastern) came through the center of town on what was then Washington Street. The railroad remains today as the CSX Crawfordsville Sub and is the mainline from Indianapolis and Avon to Chicago. Linnsburg, Indiana
Linnsburg is a small unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Walnut Township, Montgomery County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. The town is a former whistle stop on the Monon branch and still has active rail service today from Nucor Steel to Avon. History Linnsburg was platted by Susan McMullen in 1870. A post office was established at Linnsburg in 1887, and remained in operation until 1934. In the early hours of May 13, 1995, an F-2 tornado struck this small community and killed two people as they slept in their beds. There was no warning. The storm damaged portions of Nucor Steel, Walnut Township Elementary School, and several homes and farms. Police officers and fire fighters from all around the county converged on the scene and spent hours digging through the rubble for survivors. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau.
