Maccabi HaSharon Netanya Football Club (Hebrew: ) is an Israeli football club based in Netanya. History The club was founded as Maccabi Beit Lid in 1951 by Victor Atiyah, and in 1962 was renamed Maccabi HaSharon Netanya. The club reached Liga Bet, the third tier of Israeli football at the time (the fourth since 1976), in the 1970–71 season and spent the decade playing at the North B division, until relegation to Liga Gimel Liga Gimel ( he, ליגה ג', lit. Netanya (also known as Natanya, he, נְתַנְיָה) is a city in the Northern Central District of Israel, and is the capital of the surrounding Sharon plain. It is north of Tel Aviv, and south of Haifa, between Poleg stream and Wingate Institute in the south and the Avihayil stream in the north. Football as an organised sport, first developed in the United Kingdom, who controlled Mandatory Palestine during the days of the British Mandate.
