Maccabi Ashdod F.C.
Maccabi Ironi Ashdod F.C. ( he, מכבי עירוני אשדוד), commonly known as Ironi Ashdod, is an Israeli football club based in Ashdod city. In 1999, the club was forced to merge with local rivals Hapoel Ashdod to create F.C. Ashdod (Moadon Sport Ashdod). In 2015, the club was resurrected by its supporters. The newborn club, owned and operated by fans, began in the bottom tier of Israeli football – Liga Gimel. Ironi Ashdod did well in their inaugural season and were promoted to Liga Bet. Re-establishment as a fan-owned club During the 2014–15 season, Ironi Ashdod fans protested against F.C. Ashdod chairman Jacky Ben-Zaken by cheering for the opponents of F.C. Ashdod during matches. The protests intensified after Ben-Zaken decided to rename F.C. Ashdod to Hapoel Ashdod and change the team colors to red. Ashdod
Ashdod ( he, ''ʾašdōḏ''; ar, أسدود or إسدود ''ʾisdūd'' or '' ʾasdūd'' ; Philistine: 𐤀𐤔𐤃𐤃 *''ʾašdūd'') is the sixth-largest city in Israel. Liga Alef
Liga Alef ( he, ליגה א', , League A) is the third tier of the Israeli football league system. It is divided into two regional divisions, north and south. History League football began in Israel in 1949–50, a year after the Israeli Declaration of Independence. However, the financial and security crises gripping the young nation caused the 1950–51 season to be abandoned before it had started. When football resumed in 1951–52, the new top division went by the name of Liga Alef. The 1952–53 season was also not played, and Liga Alef resumed in 1953–54. In the 1955–56 season, Liga Leumit came into existence as the new top division, with Liga Alef becoming the second division. Ihor Hryhorovych Petrov (born 30 January 1964) is a Ukrainian professional football coach and a former player. Haim Levy
Haim Levy ( he, חיים לוי; born 1961) is an Israeli football manager and former player who manages Hapoel Ashdod. Playing career Levy started his career in the Hapoel Netanya. In the 1991–92 season he played for Hapoel Haifa and achieved promotion to the first division. In the 1992–93 season Levy played For Maccabi Ironi Ashdod and was promoted to the first division. Managerial career After retiring as a player, Levy became a manager. He managed Bnei Sakhnin in the First League in 2010. He went on to manage clubs in the second division and in Liga Alef. Liga Leumit ( he, ליגה לאומית, lit. ''National League'') is the second division of the Israeli Football League, and below its Premier League. Structure There are 16 clubs in the league. At the end of each season, the two lowest-placed teams are relegated to Liga Alef while the two highest-placed teams from Liga Alef are promoted in their place. The two highest-placed Liga Leumit teams are promoted to the Israeli Premier League while the bottom two teams from Israeli Premier League are relegated in their place. Hapoel ( he, הפועל, lit. ''the worker'') is an Israeli Jewish sports association established in 1926 by the Histadrut Labor Federation. History During the British Mandate of Palestine period Hapoel had a bitter rivalry with Maccabi and organized its own competitions, with the exception of football, the only sport in which all the organizations played each other. Liga Artzit ( he, ליגה ארצית, lit. ''Country League'') is the defunct third division of Israeli Football League, beneath its highest division Premier League and the second division Liga Leumit. Before being cancelled in 2009, it was run by the Israel Football Association. It was replaced by Liga Alef. Structure There were 12 teams in Liga Artzit. Each team played 33 matches; the first 22 matches were played on a home and away basis, with the last 11 fixtures based on league positions after 22 games. Like the majority of leagues in the world, three points were awarded for a win, one for a draw and zero for a loss.
